Guest guest
When my sheepskin was new it was nice and fluffy and the wool was straight. Now it seems rather compacted or matted in the area where I sit. I read on a website that when the sheepskin is washed it reverts back to its naturally curly state and that to have the wool straight I would have to comb it out while it was wet and while it dried. My mom had washed her sheepskin and the hairs did shorten and compress into a different state. For years I had thought she had damaged it and haven't wanted to wash mine. I do not like the curly state of hers it is very dense and I don't get the same feeling on my spine. I am wondering what care I should have been giving my sheepskin in the areas of most contact and maybe what I should do with it now in the matted areas? I am wondering if I should purchase a special brush. I saw a brush for dogs at a Home show that looked similar to the brush on the New Zealand sheepskin website but the brush was removing some of the wool and I don't want that to happen. Anybody have experience in this area? I just feel that when I lie on it it is giving me a hug and I don't want to lose that feeling by ignorantly neglecting its needs. Guest guest
I wash my sheepskins on the handwash cycle in the washing machine with COLD water only and woolite then let it dry on it's own, not in the dryer! After all it is wool and will shrink, just like your wool sweaters They last for years and years this way! Enjoy your sittings on a clean, fluffy skin. Guest guest
The store in Santa Fe where I usually get my sheepskins told me to wash in cold water with Ivory Snow, preferable to Woolite. If you have an " air dry " cycle on your dryer, that works really well to fluff it up. I usually put it out in the sun (if there is any in my foggy area) to dry and then fluff in the dryer. Guest guest
sheepskin care: not all sheepskins are receptive to machine washing...all the quality that i have been selling at solstice for the past several years are machine washable, but i recommend against woolite....i have been supplying an additive for the wash cycle that enriches the oils in the skins and again will have some at this summer solstice........brushing with a pet brush is ok and it is natural for some of the fur to come out ( not an excess though) See what's free at AOL.com.
