Sat Nam Ji's!

Jet lag is seen Ayurvedically as a Vata imbalance. Human bodies are not designed to travel at such heights and so quickly. The further you travel away from earth energy the more the Vata Dosha is vitiated. As with any Vata imbalance you may experience constipation, anxiety, dizziness, disorientation, headache, and the inability to sleep and focus the mind.

Some helpful remedies include taking ginger capsules before, during, and after your flight. Drinking Golden milk before and after, drinking lots of water during the flight (add ginger, cardamom, or cinnamon to increase the benefit), give yourself abhyanga using a grounding essential oil such as sandalwood before and after the flight. I make a "jet lag" spray using lavendar, rose geranium, and rosemary that is very effective. You could take a bath using those essential oils after your flight and continue for a few days to help balance Vata Dosha. Eating nourishing creamy foods and continuing the Abhyanga (especially heavy application of oil to the crown Chakra) will be very helpful after you land.

Any yoga and meditation that stimulates the pineal gland and thus stimulate production of melatonin will aid in the reduction of jet lag symptoms. Very important to move during long flights.

This may be too elemental; but avoid all alcohol and caffeine as these dry out the srotas even further leading to aggravation of Vata.

Blessings in Health!
