Ghee (Siddha Ghrita)

The properties and usages of Ghee are different from other oils. Ghee enhances Ojas, the subtle essence of all tissue. It increases agni (and all the agnis), and all digestive energies and enzymes of the body. It promotes jatharagni, the digestive fire dwelling in the small intestine, and increases its capacity without aggravating pitta. It promotes bhutagnis, the elemental fires which dwell in the liver and govern transformation of food in the body. It does not clog the liver, as do other oils and fats, but strengthens it.

It is food for majji-dhatu, bone marrow and nerve tissue, and feeds the brain. Promoting Ojas, ghee promotes all the subtle tissues of the body, including shukra-dhatu, the reproductive tissues. Through Ojas, it gives sustenance to tejas, the fire of the mind, and thus promotes medhagni, the flame of intelligence and perception. As such it is an important rejuvenative tonic or rasa yana for the mind, the brain and the nervous system. It quickly removes toxins and heat from the body. It is very good for Vata and Pitta Doshas. Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Alzheimers, and dis-ease of the eyes are greatly helped with the use of ghee.

Ghee is excellent for diseases of the subtle tissues, nerves and mind, including many Vata challenges such as anxiety, nervousness, panic attacks, foggy thinking, dizziness, heart palpitations or pain, constipation, and digestive complaints. It increases the power of vision and improves the voice. It is good for lung disorders and wasting dis-eases. It may be taken internally, used in cooking, used externally for skin disorders and headaches, and used as nasya to increase intelligence.

A delicious way to use the healing properties of Ghee is the 10 day Ginger Treatment. It improves agni as well as enhancing the body and mind in all the ways described above. It is taken in this way as a mini cleanse.

Mix together 8 tsp each of freshly grated ginger, melted ghee, and organic brown sugar. Each morning before breakfast take the amount listed below.

Day 1: ½ tspDay 2: 1 tspDay 3: 1 ½ tspDay 4: 2 tspDay 5: 2 ½ tspDay 6: 2 ½ tspDay 7: 2 tspDay 8: 1 ½ tspDay 9: 1 tspDay 10: ½ tsp

Blessings in Health!
