Sat Nam Everyone,

I recently returned from spending two weeks directing our Khalsa Youth Camp at Ram Das Puri in Espanola NM, June 25-July 8. I wanted to share some of the highlights for those of you who may be interested in this unique summer camp designed and created by Yogi Bhajan for our Aquarian children.

Not unlike all our other events, we are attracting a more diverse group of people of consciousness and in greater numbers. Our enrollment this summer increase by 20% over the past six years. We had approximately 1/3 children from American born Sikh families, 1/3 from Punjabi Sikhs and 1/3 yoga student/3HO parents. Children came from around the world; Belgium, Germany, Canada, Mexico, Sweden, and the USA. Each day began with an uplifting sadhana specifically designed for children ages 5-12 and our morning Gurdwara. Activities from the summer included martial arts training, gutka, bangra dance, arts, ropes, hiking, swimming, skits, community service at the nursing home, piñata party, the 5 tatwas, overnight camping trip, carnival, and evening group meditations and discussions. It was a summer full of energy, challenges, fun and excellence for all children, teens and adults who joined us.

If you're interested in receiving our KYC News Letter, send me your email address (or maybe I can just forward it to this site).

Humbly yours,

SiriNam Singh

Sat Jagat Singh and I (we oversee the Solstice food) came up with this recipe a few years back.Solstice SoupThis recipe was originally for 15 gallons of soup. We’ve tried to cut it down proportionately, but you may need to experiment with the spices a bit.1. Fill a 2 quart soup pot 5/6 full of water and bring to boil.2. Add equal amounts of chopped celery, potatoes, and onions until about 3/4 full.3. Add spices:1 tsp mild chili powder blend1/4 tsp crushed red chili flakes1/4 tsp ground red chilies1/4 tsp cayenne pepper1 tsp turmeric1 tsp sea salt4. Boil soup on medium low heat approximately 45 minutes - 1 hour or until potatoes have cooked down to some degree and are becoming incorporated into the broth, stirring every 10 minutes.5. With 15 minutes of cooking time remaining add 1 tsp minced garlic and 4 T unrefined cooking oil.Blessings,Jot SinghIt's not the life that matters-It's the courage you bring to it.The Three Laws of ProsperityBe kind to everyoneNever speak ill of anyoneNever speak ill of yourselfYogi Bhajanwww.khalsakirpans.comwww.lifeknives.com

LUST Uncovered! Fun or Poison?

Lust Never Sleepsfrom Dev Atma SinghIn "Autobiography of a Yogi," Yogananda makes clearthat lust, one of the seven deadly sins, is consideredthe cardinal sin to Indian religious philosophy. Butthis is not to say that an instance of lust is a thingto be held onto and repented. Look at an instance of any sin, and consider it inyogic terms: what underlies avarice, greed, sloth, etcis attachment. In each of these cases Maya convincesthe soul of its existence.Just as the foundation of Maya is the illusion ofseparation, so lust is the sin that describes mostsuccinctly the nature of our attachment (in itsrelation to bodily appetite). In other words, there is a force in us that belongs tothe body that we yet experience in the mind. Theseare the virtues and sins as outlined by the yogis, saints, and even Thomas Hobbes (who called themNatural laws). We know them by their emotionalcontent.Yogi Bhajan often said anger was a poison. Lust is,too, but Yogiji's emphasis is on that vehemence wecarry in out-of-control emotions. The Bhagavad-Gitadescribes our emotions as the horses before thechariot. So our emotions either run away with us, orare reined by us, fueling our drive and commitment. It is important to allow ourselves to feel whatever itis we feel, but our soul, our "sat nam," must be acapable charioteer. This is why, as we grow along a spiritual path, webegin to seek a holy community. With others who seethrough the veil of Maya, we are by nature practicingyoga, and by this practice we assures our ability toguide ourselves toward virtuous emotions. This way, while Maya is always there, and our bodilynatures are tempted to believe its existence, we canbreathe into the space that connects us to the objectof desire, to realize we already are one with it, andwe can let Lust go.sat nam dear ones________No need to miss a message.
