Guest guest
Hi I teach kundalini yoga and have a lady who would like to come to my class with her 2 children who are age 12 and 14. It is an adults class at a gym. Does anyone know whether all kundalini kriyas are ok for children? I know that one of the contraindications is breath of fire. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks Sukhpal Need a break? Find your escape route with Live Search Maps.
Guest guest
Sat Nam! Both those kids are old enough to do breath of fire. It's kids under 12 who need to do it very gently - as practice. Twelve and older can do it full out because their bodies are sufficiently developed. There are no other restrictions. ......G
Guest guest
Sat Nam Sukhpal, Children twelve and up are allowed to do Breath of Fire and Sat Kriya, in fact all yogic practices that adults do. Blessings, Guruprem Kaur
Guest guest
Sat Nam Sukhpal These girls should be ok to join in the adults class with a few adjustments/considerations. Breath of Fire should not be practiced for any extended periods of time prior to 12 years of age (3-5 minutes total per class at the most, in 30sec-1 min 'bits') - as they are 12 & 14 they can practice breath of fire, but help them to build it up slowly and dont rush into it .. can help them with picking up energy and dealing with teen 'blues'. Bandhas/body locks should not be used prior to the onset of menstruation/puberty - (once puberty has begun they can help with balancing the hormonal shifts). Best after age 15, and in moderation before that. Sat Kriya and Varuyas Kriya can be practised in moderation from 11-14 years of age, especially helpful after 14 years of age (information extracted from Shakta Kaur Khalsa's Radiant Child Yoga Program manual) They should be encouraged to work at a pace that they can manage - I often find that this age group has difficulty 'keeping up' for extended periods of time. All the best with them In love & light Har Simrat Kaur (Bris, Aust)
Guest guest
Children don't have to and shouldn't do the full times of the excercises and meditations. The 14 yr. old does not count as a child in this case and can do the full times. Kartar Kaur
