Guest guest
Dear members of the Kundalini community, Sat nam. I am a student in the MD/PhD program at the University of Iowa, and am currently pursuing my PhD in neuroscience. For my thesis I am studying the effects of meditation on body awareness and body regulation. Some of the people on this list may know me (or my parents), as I grew up in the Millis, MA ashram and attended boarding school in India. I am looking for Kundalini meditators who might be interested in participating in my dissertation experiment. The general procedure involves assessing the effects of the practice of meditation on body awareness, as well the effect of meditation on regulating body states. This study is approved and sponsored by the University of Iowa, which is located in Iowa City, Iowa. If you were to participate you would need to travel to Iowa City and be available during one weekday. I have a grant that would cover your travel expenses incurred during the trip, up to $500. This includes airfare (or mileage at a rate of $.485 per mile, if driving), a one-night stay at a hotel, and food during your visit. You would also be paid for participating in the study, at a rate of $25 per hour. The study would last up to 5 hours total, for a reimbursement of $125. The total possible reimbursement is $625 (up to $500 for travel and $125 for study participation). In order to be eligible for the study Kundalini practitioners must meet two requirements: 1) At least two years of daily or near daily experience practicing Kundalini yoga & meditation (it is assumed that each practice takes at least 5 minutes). 2) Participation in at least two meditation retreats (e.g., completing two 3 day tantric courses). If you are interested in participating, or have any questions about the study and the travel requirement, please contact me by phone or email (see below).
