Guest guest
I have been waking up at 4 am this week for my Sadhana. I feel great during the morning, though by the afternoon I have trouble keeping my eyes open. I would love a midday nap, but I do not think it would work in the office. Any tips from veterans on how to maintain an amrit vela sadhana while functioning on the job? Sat Daya Sinhg

Guest guest
Sat Nam Jiwan Jot, Just a tip for you - it might be a good idea to stay overnight in a motel either in ABQ, Santa Fe or Espanola. You won't want to drive all the way up to the site in the middle of the night. Guest guest
Sat Nam, bless you in your efforts to elevate your consciousness through a daily sadhana. One of the most important parts of a morning sadhana, I have found, is that it begins the night before. You not only have to get to bed before your usual time (I'd say by 9 or 930 at the latest) but you have to make the effort to get into a deep restful sleep that will completely relax and energize you for the next day. The best way to get a deep restful sleep is to meditate before you go to bed, in addition to bathing your feet in cold water, combing your hair back and forth, and so forth. If you think about it, the next day's sadhana begins with the sadhana that day. Be as devoted and as powerful as you can manage (without going overbaord into fanataicism) as a way of insuring your personal sadhana. If you find yourself getting sleepy in the daytime, try to manage an 11 minute nap somehow. Tell your boss your going to do this on your lunch or break time. It might help. Then of course you have to find a place where you'll be undisturbed! Be sure you have an alarm set to wake you up. (I once slept over an hour during an 11 minute nap and missed an important class that I had to teach!) Sadhana represents a sea change in the " normal " western lifestyle. It has to be adapted to and it can't be done suddenly. Ease your way into it. Sleep after sadhana if you can. Even a minute or two of deep meditative rest, eyes closed, spine straight, deep breathing while sitting at your desk can help. Breath of Fire is both energizing and relaxing. Right nostril breathing helps. You will have to find what works for you. Expirement, there is a wealth of yogic tools. Kriya to Conquer Sleep in the Sadahna Manual is great. I tell students that no matter what their " sleep " problem, whether they are too sleepy during the day or not sleepy enough at night, this kriya can help. It will bring you and your sleep patterns into balance. Best wishes and blessings.
