Guest guest
Sat Nam, Sukhpal ji - First of all, I wish you the best in your dealing with and healing Thyroid as an issue of natural medicine. At the same time, this is an important question for everyone. Yogi Bhajan taught specifically about thyroid nutrition and health in 1969. Given the importance of the pituitary gland (at the 3rd eye center of vision), and the dependence of the pituitary upon the thyroid (as regulator of metabolic rate), he noted two things: 1. That our agricultural soils are highly depleted of nutritional iodine, which is a primary nutrient for the thyroid. If we're not eating it we don't get it. As a source for the iodine we need, he recommended using kelp tablets, as a good source of iodine from the oceans. However, today (I want to add) the pollution of our oceans by industrial toxic waste (especially nearer the shorelines where kelp is normally found and harvested) would require even greater diligence today than in 1969, to find kelp that is not otherwise contaminated. At this moment I don't have a direct answer to this new problem. I'm simply sharing what he taught. You may be able to find other naturopathically good sources of nutritional iodine. Fresh, clear coconut juice is very high in bio-available iodine (if and when you can find them). They're probably not local to your neighborhood, but coconut joice an historical source (it's not the same as the white coconut milk, which is later in the ripening). Future agriculture, based on biology (rather than industrial chemicals and fertilizers) will probably, necessarily use dried, ocean derived minerals as an important soil restoration source. And this will become another great adventure in the coming Aquarian Age - How will we feed ourselves in a healthy, affordable and socially equitable way? (How about having an ORGANIC, LOCALLY GROWN LANGAR PROGRAM ?? !! for everyone? ) 2. Yogiji also taught a very simple physical exercise to stimulate the thyroid directly to secrete (assuming the presence of Iodine for the thyroid to do its work). Just sitting in easy pose, focus at the third eye, and drop the chin forward into the episternal notch (the " U shaped " indentation in the bone just below the larynx), then press the chin FIRMLY into the notch and rub deeply from side to side. I don't remember ever doing this exercise for more than three minutes. Others may remember more specifically if timing was ever specified. It really doesn't take very long. I hope this information might be helpful for you. Perhaps there are homeopathics (or other natural or Ayurvedic approaches) for stimulating and resolving thyroid related issues such as what you're experiencing. I wish you many blessings for finding that. Sat Nam, Krishna Singh *********** Hi I have been told that I am hypothyroid (Ie low thyroid) - I am going for another test in the next few weeks. Does anybody in the group have an yoga sets they would recommend or any other hints and tips? Thank you. Sat Nam Sukhpal
Guest guest
Sat Nam. I was diagnosed having low thyroid almost 20 years ago. However, the reason for my low thyroid was something that was not reversable. So although it is important to do KY, which does stimulate and regulate the glandular system, depending on what the actual diagnosis is, some causes cannot be turned around. As a result I take thyroid --Arnour Thyroid which is natural (animal), rather than synthroid which is synthetic. Okay, for those who are wondering about the the vegetarian issue, I decided I would rather take this natural supplement than a synthetic which after a long time has side effects, and have never looked back. For some conditions after taking supplements in conjunction with doing other therapies a thyroid will 'kick in' on its own... with love and prayers, satsimran
