Guest guest
Your student has a REALLY tight diaphragm. It will loosen up with some work. Breath of fire is the key to this. She is holding excess space in her breathing room like someone holds onto a precious possession. Have her lie on her back and inhale all the way. She'll try to inhale 3/4 of the way, or 5/8, whatever. Have her inhale ALL THE WAY in and give up what she's holding - then have her practice BOF on her back with her hand resting on her navel. Have her monitor her hand - it goes down, breath goes out - for 3 minutes. If she starts reversing the breath or anything, have her inhale all the way in again (you may have to prompt her 'inhale more', 'more') and then start over. Starting BOF after a full inhale counteracts the reversing that new students do. When she can do BOF in easy pose, give her ego eradicator, 3min, every morning. The BEST for loosening up the diaphragm! just my suggestions, there are many more - good luck! -Baba
Guest guest
I find in my teaching that people must be able to master the basic 3 part long deep breathing before they can be adept at breath of fire. If people can't do breath of fire, they can do long deep breathing as an alternative. Sat Nam, Kartar K.
