Guest guest
From Karta Purkh Singh Khalsa, Eugene, Oregon Rose hips got some attention for arthritis recently. Danish scientists, working at the Copenhagen County Hospital Gentofte, looked at powdered rose hips to determine if the herb might ease symptoms of osteoarthritis and cut down on the patient’s use of rescue medication. Forty-seven patients took 5 g of the herb daily, or a placebo, for 3 months. Rose hip brought about a significant reduction in pain compared to placebo, after just 3 weeks of treatment. And the patients took a lot less rescue medicine for pain. Disability, stiffness, and global assessment of severity of the disease decreased significantly after 3 months of treatment. All in all, this is a pretty dramatic result for such a simple medicine- one which is available just about anywhere, is so inexpensive, and is so agreeable in taste. And the dose was only 5 grams per day! Rose hips are full of red pigments. These colorful plant polyphenols, similar to the active ingredients in red wine, are renowned for reducing inflammation.
