Guest guest
Sat Nam Dear Kundalini Yoga worldwide family: It is sad to say, but true, that it is times like these when one realizes the power, depth and beauty of a path in Kundalini Yoga. And although you might feel that you are alone teaching in some remote spot somewhere on the globe, when you need some help in life, (as one day you surely will) never forget that if you call on the BIG Gurus of the Kundalini Yoga world - help will come! We are a small yoga community in South Louisiana. So our members are near and dear to us. Many of our fellow yogis and teachers left the area after Katrina/Rita, so those left are now even more near and dear! Just yesterday one of our members was hit with unimaginable tragedy, while (of all things) on her way to meditation! Amy Pickholtz, a bright kundalini light in the city of Baton Rouge, " a ball of fire and heart, totally passionalte about everything kundalini yoga " is how we think of Amy, was on a motorcycle with her husband coming to our monthly water blessing meditation. We have done these meditations ever since the hurricanes of 2005 to bring peace and healing to the water. (It's been working pretty good so far.) It was Amy and Jim's first time coming to the water blessing and they got lost on the scenic backroads. They called several times and we gave them additional directions, we delayed starting the meditation for about an hour hoping they would find their way and arrive. Finally we decided we'd better start (as it is a 62 minute meditation.) It was a beautiful, glorious, cool, fall morning - picture postcard blue sky, we were sure they were having a fine ride - and expected them any minute (for the whole 62 minutes). Needless to say, they never arrived. We were told that at the last conversation with them, which happened during the meditation, they had decided to turn back to Baton Rouge. We ate a lovely breakfast and we all commented how sad we were that they hadn't made it, and how we had thought of them so much during the meditation. It seemed there were a zillion motorcycles that we heard driving nearby - we were all sure each one, was them. Today brought shock when we heard the news that they had been struck by a car, thrown from the bike, and that Amy's husband Jim had been pronounced dead at the scene. Both were wearing helmets. Amy is in the hospital with major injuries: broken arm, broken ribs, shattered hips. They put a rod in one of her legs already and she faces many more surgeries. The car that struck them was being driven, ironically by the Mayor of the small town they were driving through, Sorrento. The Major had been coming from a " boucherie " a local festival and somehow not seen the bike as she pulled out onto the main road. The whole story made front page news of the Baton Rouge newspaper: http://www.2theadvocate.com/news/10541932.html Now what can you do to help? Amy, a kundalini yoga teacher like you, is struggling. She said " Help me find sense in this. " She has lost the love of her life. They have 4 children, one not yet 2 years old. They have dogs, and cats. She will be recovering from her injuries for months to come. Take a minute and write her a card: Or have your students join in seva and all write one big card to her. Give her hope and encouragement. Share your love. Amy Pickholtz c/o Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center 5000 Hennessy Blvd Baton Rouge, LA 70808 For her to feel the strengh of the Kundalini Yoga Community worldwide will be a great support. Please chant AKAL for her husband Jim Pickholtz - send his soul STRAIGHT THROUGH! Please add Amy and her family to your prayer lists. We will be planning a prayer support class for her, her students, family and friends. Also we want to do a benefit concert to raise some money for Amy. To lose your husband, to lose your body and the normalcy of your life - that is enough. To have to stress also about money seems too much. When all that gets organized I'll post again to let you know. In the meantime - just know what " Kundalini Yoga Central " (as I like to call them) in New Mexico is doing. They: Sent out an email to the New Mexico sangat Dedicated this week's Akand Path to Jim, Amy and family Put Jim, Amy and family in the Ardas. the Sangat will chant 'Akal' for Jim for days to come Notified IKYTA (International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association). Guruka Kaur will let eveyone know in that big, international group. Notified KRI (Kundalini Reseach Institute). That's the teacher training arm of KY. So more help will come. And this is what I mean about the power, depth and beauty of a path in Kundalini Yoga. What a team we have behind us at every step of the game - Beloved Yogiji and all the Gurus assisting us from Infinity, and amazing people assiting us here on the earth plane. All blessings in the Divine to you today! and many thanks for your prayers for Amy, love and satnam -meredith in Louisiana
