Dear APHA Member,

Your urgent action is critical to passage of two very important bills pending in Congress to fund insurance coverage for low-income children and to fund public health programs and agencies.

On Thursday, October 18, the House of Representatives will vote to override President Bush's veto of legislation to reauthorize the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). This legislation would increase the federal tobacco tax to provide funding for health insurance for low-income children by an additional $35 billion over five years. Please send a message to your Representative and urge him/her to vote to override the President's veto using this link: http://capwiz.com/apha/issues/alert/?alertid=10431536.

The U.S. Senate is expected to consider the fiscal year 2008 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations bill the week of October 15, 2007. It is urgent that APHA members contact their Senators and tell them to support the bill when it hits the Senate floor. Please send a message using this link: http://capwiz.com/apha/issues/alert/?alertid=10431486.

Sincerely,

APHA's Government Relations Team
