Guest guest
My husband, Siri Karm Singh received an email, which I will save you from re-reading as a many have received it themselves. It is asking for private yoga classes and follows the basic format of a new version of check fraud. The scam making the rounds is overpaying for products/service then asking you to refund(wire) the difference. The trick is that your bank, on good faith, will clear the check in a matter of days (1 or 2) but in reality it takes up o 2 weeks to actually clear. When a victim falls prey to this, they are not only out of the money they refunded, but can also be blamed for taking a fake check. Even bank tellers are not trained well enough to spot a fake check. As a former bank teller, who lost a job for taking a forged check, trust me on that. These scams are being used on so many people, businesses, etc.. They simply cast a wide net, and see who gets caught. Lately, yoga teachers seem to be targeted, which is sad considering the financial challenges of supporting ourselves as teachers. The truth is that this scam is being used everywhere, so much so that there are adverts all over warning about it. You might have seen some adverts about these scams in magazines, or on public transport, I see them on the bus in Boston. More information is available at http://www.fraud.org/tips/internet/fakecheck.htm Remember; If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. God Bless you, Siri Devta
