Guest guest
Sat Nam All, I would like to buy a gong to use during shivasana at the end of my KY classess. I am wondering what size gong is typically used in Kundalini meditation? I see that the cost of 22 " Paiste gong is somewhat affordable, ~$500, but that any bigger gets much more expensive. Is 22 " acceptable? If not what larger size is recommended by those of you with more experience. (There is no Kundalini Yoga teacher with a gong in my area to ask about this, but I was previously taught to how to use the gong at teacher training). Guest guest
Nam Kaur About 10 years ago, I got a gong roughly the size you want for $150 in a closeout from a catalog. I forgot the name. There is no right size. Get whatever works and what you can afford. With gongs, a general rule is that bigger is usually better. Try this link. http://www.angelfire.com/biz3/vermontdrums/wuhangongs.html GuruBandhu Kundalini-Yoga , " namkaur " <namkaur wrote: > > Sat Nam All, > > I would like to buy a gong to use during shivasana at the end of my KY > classess. Guest guest
Sat Nam!As far as gongs go- bigger is better. However, don't forget about quality. I can personally endorse Paiste gongs. I find them to be excellent. All the yoga studios in L.A. seem to use only Paiste made gongs, and I own a 36" symphonic myself. For our use in yoga the overtones, harmonics, and quality of vibration are of extreme importance, therefore only the highest quality gong is appropriate. This site is a fantastic resource: http://gongmaster.org/ Again, I highly recommend Paiste, perhaps a symphonic to start, before venturing into the planet gongs. Here is their website: http://paiste.com/products/gongs/If you find a music shop in your area they should be able to order the appropriate gong for you. Remember to talk them down on the price! There is a lot of room for the price to move. And don't forget to watch the video of Yogiji teaching the gong if you can find it somewhere!Sat Nam,Harimander Singh
Guest guest
Sat Nam - Don't waste your money on just any gong it does need to be a Paiste Symphonic Gong. And I believe that the standard small gong used to achieve the best sound is a 27 " . They used to be available at musiciansfriends.com and music123.com for around $700 and I would recomend nothing larger than an M2 mallet (M1 is ideal but I heard they don't make them anymore). Keep looking online and contact the stores in person, see if they won't order your size for the price you want. It took me about a year of searching and ultimatley I manifested 2 gongs (27 " & 38 " ), completely unexpectedly!!! So don't give up and get clear about what you want. It will come to you. Guest guest
Sat Nam. I have 2 affordable gongs. (The unaffordable ones, I don't have.) They are both 22 " and serve very well. They came from a regular music shop here in Toronto. Gongs can vary significantly in resonance. If possible, go somewhere with a selection and try them out, then take the one with the resonance you like best.
