Guest guest
Sat nam, Awhile back I wrote an e-mail asking the group for tips on teaching high school students. Some of you requested advice from me, and here is my report on the first class I taught: I taught the Suriya kriya yesterday, and I'd like to teach the Nabhi kriya next time around. I think they would enjoy it! lol! I had 9 students, and I really enjoyed the experience. I think the key is to accept that they will be testing you, and to just take it as part of the experience. Also expect a lot of giggling, fidgeting, and under-the-breath comments, all of which I found amusing. They really like physically challenging exercises, like frogs and sat kriya. Surprisingly, they like chanting and mantras - just keep going and they'll get into the spirit of it. They like " sat nam " and many of them chanted it loudly at the class closing! Several of the girls enjoyed the deep relaxation too. The thing that I enjoyed the most were the questions - sometimes adults are trained NOT to ask questions, but they are really inquisitive. One caveat: I would keep questions during the exercises to a minimum, maybe just questions between warm-ups/kriya, kriya/meditation, etc. Hope this was of use to you!
