Guest guest
Sat nam, I had a question from a student while teaching alternate nostril breathing - he said that his right nostril is almost always clogged. Does this mean anything, and how would he clear this? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks! Sat Prem/Amy L.
Guest guest
Sat Prem Have them lay on their left side so the right nostril is higher. It will eventually open up. Also use a neti pot. Guest guest
When the right nostril is clogged, the ida nadi (and left nostril) is more dominant. Ida is cooling and dreamy, whereas pingala (right nostril) is warming, active and rational. To open right nostril, have him take his right hand and put it in left arm pit. Left arm is bent and hand in a fist. Squeeze left elbow against side of body, pressuring the right hand in the arm pit. Sounds bizarre, but this can work to open the right nostril, and vice versa for left. Another idea - have him try the kriya for new lungs (in the teacher trainer manual). When I've done it, it completely opens the nasal passages! This has worked for me even wehn they were very blocked. Good luck Ardas Singh ______________________________\ ____ Be a better pen pal. Guest guest
Oftentimes a chronical dominant nostril is due to a deviated septum, which can be heridatary or from an injury to that area. Surgery is required in such cases.
Guest guest
Ardas is correct. I just came across this in one of the books. By stimulating the area under the armpit, you're actually massaging the 7th rib which affects the diaphragm, and the subtle nerve channels of the ida and pingala. I've posted the page about the 7th rib here on my website if you're interested: http://ybc40.com7rib.pdfHope that helps some.Sat NamJai Gopal Singhhttp://ybc40.comKundalini Yoga Boot Camp for Self-Mastery
Guest guest
I will try the 7th rib technique. As someone who always seem to have a stuffy nose and has allergies I can suggest what works for me. As far as I know I have no deviated septum, however polyps can occur if you suffer from long term allergies and congestion, so maybe worth getting things checked out to be sure. I find my nasal passages clear as soon as I am in a hot dry environment, not so good living in cool and damp UK. Being congested shows on my face as I get horrible black circles round my eyes if I don't watch my health. Breath of fire and alternate nasal breathing is good but sometimes I need to clear my sinues before I can attempt them, using a neti pot works well BUT sometimes I am too congested to use it, in these instances I use a simple steam inhalation for a few moments to help clear things. Morning and night work well. The person in question may find sleeping slightly propped helps ease congestion rather than lying flat.
