Guest guest
The most recent news from zLighthouse.org: A proposed, ground- breaking bill in California is a start in the right direction for farm animals who currently have zero protection from animal cruelty laws! As stated in the Legislative Counsel's Digest: " This bill would prohibit any person from keeping a farm animal confined in an enclosure that does not permit sufficient space for each animal to stand, lie down, get up, move his or her head freely, rest, turn around completely, and extend all limbs and wings without touching any part of the enclosure or other animals. Violation of these provisions would be punishable by a citation for a civil fine of up to $1,000 for each violation, and up to $1,000 for each day that the violation continues. " However, the key word is " proposed " meaning that it has not yet qualified for placement on the September 2008 California ballot. In order to qualify, a minimum of 650,000 signatures are needed by California residents. And it's really not that many names if enough people know about it and add their name to the list! To get more information and find out how you can help (by either being a California resident yourself or by forwarding the information to those who you know live in California), please go to: http://www.farmsanctuary.org/actionalerts/alert_campaign07_2.htm If passed, this bill will give a more humane life to millions of California farm animals, currently the largest agricultural state in the country. It will also set a precedence that other states need to enact anti-cruelty legislation as well!
