Guest guest
Dear Friend: From our love of music and Rock n' Roll to exotic travel, The Beatles and I have a number of things in common. But one thing we both have for sure is that our first Guru died yesterday. Yes, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the man who introduced the West to transcendental meditation or TM died recently at his home in the Dutch town of Vlodrop. He was 91 years old. I'm a Beatle lover from way back. In fact I like to say that I majored in The Beatles while in college at The University of Florida in the late 60's. And I recall seeing The Maharishi on the Johnnie Carson Show back in the day. So it will probably come as no surprise to you that when I realized I needed some stress relief during my internship in 1975 I zipped on over to Berkeley to receive instruction in TM from my home at the time in Oakland. I remember a number of things about the course and the Maharishi. For one thing he was way ahead of his time because his instruction was on Video. He'd come on the screen and simply say, " It is easy - It is easy. " And you know what - It was pretty easy. Simply repeat the mantra given by your instructor to the exclusion of other thoughts and get into the flow. " It's like a brain massage, " I remember thinking. Of course that line, " it is easy, " turned up in The Beatles song, All You Need Is Love. Do you remember it? " All you need is love. It's easy. " What else do I remember? The Maharishi once said something else that really stuck with me: " Life need not be a painful struggle. " I particularly liked that one. And then there was, " If you don't have 20 minutes to meditate in the morning and evening you're too busy. " I hear that. Maybe his best comment, however, was this one, " Don't fight darkness. Bring the light and the darkness will disappear. " Actually I was just thinking about that this morning driving to an appointment about 8:30A.M. I looked around and saw people drinking coffee and rushing here and there and remembered something Deepak Chopra said once when we lectured together at his center in California. The conversation went some thing like this: I said, " Most people get up in the morning, jump in the shower, have their coffee, turn on CNN, get out on the highway, and never meditating, they just go round and round. " " Until they die, " the illustrious Dr. Chopra replied. Yes it's true. We all need to take some time in our life to delve into that aspect of ourselves that is just beneath the surface. We call it the spirit or the soul or our best self and it's there waiting to be discovered. When we do discover it, life has a deeper meaning and richness to it and a new depth to our being is discovered. It's a very nice experience and takes away the regret from your life. Well, over the years I moved on from TM to discover the teachings of my spiritual master, Yogi Bhajan, who touched me and made me pure. From him I learned the ancient formerly secret, sacred science of kundalini yoga and meditation. Once the great man took my wife, Kirti and I into his private room where he sat me down and said, " I'm teaching you this so you can help people as they get old. " I think I've learned well and my research is proving just how powerful these techniques are in restoring balance, creating superb health, boosting brain power, and fostering personal growth and prosperity. Yes, that's true. Prosperity is your birth right. That's why it plays a big part in the 2008 Dr. Dharma Meditation of the Month Club. It's not too late to join. Not even close.
