Guest guest
Dear Sat Avtar Kaur,After living in India for 9 years and going back in forth since the 60's, my advise to you is the following:Go with a positive mind and projection that you will be great and will not get sick. Be flexible and relaxed. India itself is the teacher, just travelling within the country is part of your process and growth. Practice KY daily. It is great for jet lag. Get into water if you can. Take with you whatever YOU feel you need for your comforts and want to schlep around. It is all about you! Drink only bottled water. Himalayan is the best if you can find it, Bisleri is safe. Don't be so concerned about brushing your teeth in regular water. Squat toilets are more sanitary than western.Have fun, keep up, keep going, laugh a lot; the weather will be great this time of year.P.S. I have rarely gotten sick in India. One of my students who was so worried about getting sick, did!Blessings, SooryaSat Avtar Kaur <myraloreyKundalini-Yoga Sent: Monday, February 18, 2008 8:31:21 PM on trips to India, does any one use these items Sat Nam, For those of you who have gone to India, have you ever used these items? Guest guest
I put this little snippet on my website.. A basic protocol I’ve used time and again for India etc.. I’ve gotten sick - and I haven’t, both.. Funnily, when I have herbal remedies handy, I tend to not get sick and then I have some extra for a fellow traveler.. The local ayurvedic remedies do not work for me, they’re not strong enough.. The following remedies are available in South Africa, find an equivalent in your place.. GOOD REMEDIES FOR MATA INDIA Two afflictions strike a traveler with greater vehemence than anywhere else. You don’t have to loose out on your adventure holiday! Protect yourself by taking adequate remedies along. If you don’t take the right remedies, you may end up spending some of your precious time there in bed.. TUMMY BUG - also known as Delhi Belly or Calcutta Splutter. It is a diarrhea, induced by Giardia bacteria. WHAT TO DO: Take medicinal charcoal, either by NATURMADE, 4 tablets 3 x a day, or by NATURE’S CHOICE 1/3 ts powder 3 x day, or by TRACEMATE (from Bryanston store), 1 knife tip full 3 – 4 x a day. Latter product will clear the ‘sick’ feeling and alkalinize the system nearly immediately. At the same time, take VIRIDIAN or AMIPRO CITRICIDAL (this is a specific for killing Giardia): 2 caps 3 x a day and OLIVE LEAF EXTRACT or GOLDEN SEAL, 4 caps a day. Prevention for Giardia: Two weeks prior to going to India, try and include up to ½ a raw onion a day (Yogi Bhajan’s recommendation. Once I tried blending it with yoghurt, but it wasn’t nice!) It conditions your digestive system and gives you immunity. In India, try and have some green chilli and raw onion every day. Drink water from genuinely sealed water bottles. Wash your hands often. Take 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide in a small dropper bottle (vent it occasionally if it looks like pressure builds up in it from the oxygen). You can buy fresh fruit (you WILL feel better and fresh from eating fresh items). Produce that you can’t peel, immerse in warm water in your hotel room sink and add a good sprinkling of hydrogen peroxide. Soak for a few moments. RESPIRATORY COMPLAINTS India has a lot of environmental pollution, add to that plenty bacteria from challenged hygiene conditions and you can get very congested. Don’t suffer – be prepared! SOLGAR’S ECHINACEA GOLDEN SEAL CAT’S CLAW is very strong: take 2 – 3 caps 3 x a day sure is a bug terminator. Also take a bottle of TEA TREE OIL: if you have any small cuts or grazes you can quickly disinfect them and prevent infection. OTHER USEFUL ITEMS: A small vacuum flask and an immersion heater (you can buy these cheaply in India but use conscientiously), a peeler knife Nuts & Raisins Health Bars Psyllium husks to keep you regular, or ground flax seed which will also give you protein Bottle of honey and your fave tea bags
Guest guest
Sooryas advice is good I would just add: On a short trip I don't eat any raw veges or fruit unless I prepare them myself or know who did prepare them. Anything you can peel ie cucumbers, bananas, papaya is especially good. Even in expensive hotels. As a prophalactic I start taking grapefruit seed extract a week before going and continue taking it in India.Neem is also good and that you get in India. If you do get sick India has very good medical facilities both western and homeopathic, aryuvedic, acupuncture etc ...and much cheaper then here -In fact last year I did all my medical exams blood tests etc for $50 in Amritsar. I also do dental and meical procedures when I am there because they have modern equipment and are inexpensive. The people at MPA know where to go. India , even Amritsar is becoming more western and you find western toilets etc in the city (villages is something else) Carry some toilet paper when you travel . I always bring handwipes and almost never use them because most of the restaurants and even dhabas have soap. So enjoy .
