Hello,

I am on day 110 of sodarshan(no pause between days). I can only do 5

min each day, which are really hard to complete.

Before I do sodarshan, I do the following routine:

10 min one-minute breath

5 min mahan gyan mudra

8 min meditation for addictions

10 min breath of fire

I feel that my energy has probably risen to the 2nd chakra, since I

feel energy behind my navel point. I have practiced kundalini on and

off since june 07, except for when I started seriuosly commiting to

sodarshan(110 days ago). I understand that KY should be practice

gradually, but is there anything I can do to increase my sodarshan

practice and my KY concentration? Any advice...

Sat Nam-

Congratulations on 110 days! I'm in the middle of doing my second 40

day sodarshan meditation. The first time around, I had a lot of

difficulty doing the 4 sets of 12 pumps on one breath; in fact, i just

couldn't do it at all. The person who taught it to me advised that it

was better to do less pumps in a more focused manner (i focus a lot on

the source of the pumping, making sure it doesn't creep up above the

navel, and keep the top of my belly relaxed.) The first time around I

would do 24-36 pumps, but I couldn't do 48 on a regular basis. But I

was dedicated to doing 11 minutes a day. I'm doing it again (about 9

months after the first time) and i'm doing 11-15 minutes a day but i

can easily do all 48 pumps on one breath. I would recommend modifying

the amount of pumps you are doing, because if your lungs and ribs

aren't used to this kind of intense exercise, it can be very draining

energetically.

I debated as to whether I would come in on this, since I can barely do 3 minutes. I started on Dec 28th and at that time I had to rest after every Wahay Guru. Now, I can do 3 or 4 at a time, before having to stop. I am aiming for 11 minutes for now and working towards 62 minutes, what else?I would not have tried anything at all if I had not found this site:http://www.anmolmehta.com/blog/2007/03/29/3-most-powerful-yoga-pranayamas-and-kriyas-part-1/ Chant for a total of 16 Wahay GurusBeginners: 16 pumps per cycle for 3 - 11 minutes. (there is a lot more information at the site)Intermediates: 32 pumps You should try to do 11 - 22 - 31 minutes daily.Advanced: 48 stomach pumps with 31 minutes daily for 40 days.Perfected:62 minutes per day and build it up to 2 1/2 hours everyday. If you can discipline yourself to do that, the kriya will provide everything needed in all areas of your life.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gG2jBJgkK4Yogi Bhajan's word on Sodarshan I guess or I assume that between the 3 of us, we have covered it all.Sat Nam,Sat Avtar Kaur

thanks a lot. Your post called my attention, especially the comment on

the navel point. So you can't move/must restrict the upper abdomen

when doing the pumps? I will have that in mind when doing SCK.

Did Yogi Bhajan say it was alright to modify the amount of pumps? As far as I know, if you change the meditation (by modifying the pumps) you are no longer doing Sodarshan Chakra Kriya. It seems a better idea to work on the pranic body through other meditations first, lots of breath of fire, perhaps tershula kriya- or one minute breath, in preperation for Sodarshan Chakra, so that once you start you can handle it. Otherwise you're just forcing yourself into a space that you can't fit, and deciding to change the teachings. There are so many kriyas and sets that it would take lifetimes just to try them all. If someone can't do a meditation there are thousands of others to choose from. There is no reason to force it.Sat Nam,Harimander

No, its not a restriction of the upper abdomen at all. I focus on

pumping from the navel (which is slightly below the belly-button).

This is something I personally focus on because my tendency is that

the pumping action can slowly creep up my abdomen. The top of the

abdomen moves as a result of the pumping, but shouldn't be the

initiator in the pumping action. It might be easier for someone to

explain/demonstrate in person. And its good to remember its always a

work in progress!
