Guest guest
Thank you Amar Atma for this posting. I am a Bertrand Russell fan, and a former atheist. While I have not taken any vows to be Sikh, I have felt an ever deepening commitment in my yoga practice, which has inspired me to wear turbans and chant. But I must admit that, on some level, I have looked for ways in which the Sikh faith " messes up. " Even though Yogi Bhajan made very clear that religion is a " science of happiness " (and if it is not making you happy, it is not working), and that there has never yet been an adequate one, I was still resistant. That said, I have been chanting Japji and Dhan Dhan Ram Das Gur for some time, and the vibration the paurees and shabds have are, in a word, effective. I cannot turn them away. So it is comforting to hear that the Sikh texts have been pored over by skeptics and that they, like me, have found no fault in this religion that is not an " -ism. " It is amazing to me that Guru Gobind Singh had the foresight to install the Siri Guru Granth Sahib as the 11th Guru. I was raised Methodist, and in my studies, I have come to understand that the message of all holy men, Jesus, the Buddha, and the Sikh Gurus, has been one and the same: we, as souls, are ultimately responsible for our selves, including our bodies and minds. And attention to any part, without the soul's participation and guidance, amounts to ignorance, if not hypocrisy. Thank you again Amar Atma.
