Guest guest
Does anyone know why the sound of the gong is able to release the subconscious? I know that the gong can cause emotions and thoughts to be provoked from the subconscious and that the nervous system is put under a pressure to adjust and heal. But what specifically about the sound of the gong causes this healing? Sat Nam. Hannah
Guest guest
Sat Nam Hannah, Sound only exists because of the presence of 'matter' (Sound IS matter to some of us). In this case that matter is air. The air between the struck Gong and your eardrums vibrates your eardrums. We know that. But, the other part of the body that is touched by this vibration is your skin, the largest sensory organ we have. The body is a repository of every experience you have ever had. This is the subconscious mind. The sound of the gong has the ability to stimulate and remind us of our genetic origins. The Sound of the Gong is the sound of 'creation', as opposed to just any music, in the hands of an attuned 'master'. "The gong is very simple. It is an inter-vibratory system. It is the sound of Creativity itself. The gong is nothing more, nothing less. One who plays the gong plays the universe. The gong is not an ordinary thing to play. Out of it come all music, all sounds, and all words. The sound of the gong is the nucleus of the Word . The gong is not a musical instrument, nor a drum. The gong is God. So it is said; so it is" --Yogi Bhajan The body experiences this very whole sound as "pressure waves" that reminds our cells to vibrate at their highest. In doing so we have a chance to relate to our spirit, Soul and our depth without the normal fears and angers associated with operating from a place of "doing", which is the realm of the sympathetic nervous system. This is effortless healing. Release is inevitable as the Gong stimulates and balances the Para-sympathetic nervous system, which governs involuntary actions like breathing, digestion, heart beat, etc. There is no defense against the Sacred gong when it is played skillfully. This has the power to heal illness you don't even know you have. Sat Nam, Dharam Millis, MA hannahkozak wrote: Does anyone know why the sound of the gong is able to release the subconscious? Guest guest
Sat Nam, my personal opinion is that the sound waves of a powerful, perfectly played gong meditation/relaxation work on the cellular level (not cell phones but body and brain cells!). These sound waves set up a new and clear vibration for these cells to vibrate at. We are ALWAYS vibrating at some level, unfortunately it may be at the level of greed, or anger or lust or whatever negative aspects we choose to vibrate at and yes, it is a choice! We also can choose a positive vibration or unquestioning love, or service or compassion, and that feels good. But a gong brings us a powerful and clear vibration. Think about when you have chanted a heart opening mantra or sang a beautiful song. It's like that only the effect is enhanced because you needn't make any effort but to relax and let it happen. The gong will carry you to places and spaces free of subconscious. It's not perfect (it's a process) but it is powerful and cleansing.
