Guest guest
Sat nam everyone I'm a lone teacher in a city where are very few Kundalini Yoga teachers. After completing my KRI level 1 training, I maintained getting up at 3:45 am to do sadhana every morning. This summer I traveled to Japan and the time difference warped my system drastically. Since then I haven't been able to get up earlier than 5:15 am. My husband has joined me in doing yoga 3 times a week, and he wakes up at 6 am to begin. Does anyone have any suggestions how to coax the body out of bed earlier? I find that I am needing the extra sleep but my day doesn't generally end until about 10 pm (I teach yoga in the evenings after working a normal school day). I do jump into cold showers (still keeping that up) and drink a glass of water before bed. I look forward to any suggestions people have to share. Thank you for your help in this matter. I really do want to get back to my routine. Many blessings, Santokh Kaur
Guest guest
There is a yoga set for waking up early, unfortunately it is buried somewhere in my notes. I really can't offer any hope that I'll find it anytime soon but I will be on the lookout and if it does turn up I will post it here. What I do remember about it was that it was short and vigorous. You would do the exercises, drink an 8 oz glass of water and go to sleep. Then when nature awoke you to go to the bathroom you would do the set again, have more water and go back to sleep. Two hours or so later, you'd be up again ... and so forth. This was to train your body and mind to subsist on less sleep. It may not be exactly what you are looking for but it would help. Personally, when I am having a hard time getting up in the amrit vehla I let Guru Ram Das take care of it. Seeing as how he is the fourth guru, he's kind of in charge at that time (4 AM) of the morning so before I go to sleep at night I simply say " Guru Ram Das, unless you get me up, I'm probably not going to wake up so it's up to you! " Usually, it works! Guest guest
Sounds like you need the sleep. Do you have to teach a late night class? Arranging your schedule so that yin time (after sunset) is devoted to relaxing and winding down - instead of teaching, where you're required to be very focussed and tuned into the students - would probably help. ______________________________\ ____ You rock. Guest guest
That is a very interesting suggestion. Don't teach? I admit I didn't read the original post, but my students have always been what motivated me to keep up. If the students are served by a late night class, why would you rearrange your schedule? Guess it depends on your priorities. Here in NYC there is so much strong energy at night. Before returning here I was incredibly disciplined with my sadhana, now... Let's just say it is different. Once a week I'm blessed to have a group Sadhana nearby. I call them and tell them I'm coming, then the commitment is made. As far as the rest of the week: I asked for help, and I am blessed that I now have 7am clients 3 times a week. This gets me up early. However, I do take a lot of naps lately. Seem to need more sleep than ever before. Changing seasons has some effect. I'm waiting for that thing that seems to happen with age where your body just needs less sleep. So is this a normal side effect of teaching 15-20 classes a week, or... mono???
