15 Good Reasons NOT to go to Solstice This Summer

1 - " I haven't done sadhana in weeks "

What's the use eh? My sadhana's not going to change in just a few days

with a thousand or so other people doing sadhana, is it???? Well,

maybe it'll change a little bit if I get there for at least the

meditation and then gurdwara with that warm and toasty prasad ... it

might help! Who knows, maybe tomorrow I'll jump out of bed when Guru

Singh and his people stroll by singing, " Rise up sweet family ... "

2 - At least the water's good.

Hmmm! The water's not good, it's great. It feels loaded with prana and

my thirst for it never seems to slacken. Years ago it seems there was

just one faucet in the area where the kitchen is now, that place

looked like a shrine to me. My bottle of water is a sign and symbol of

what I'm trying to do up here—remain balanced in a lot of ways and happy.

3 - Can't stand that electrolyte you gotta drink.

I agree, the stuff tastes like survival, just barely. Have some

watermelon, or an orange. Be sure you have your breakfast soup and the

bananas and oranges, and the dinner. It's all part of the balance you

want to be in the middle of.

4 - Can't stand the same boring food every day.

Yeah, the food ... the warm spicy soup on a chilly morning ... (Lots

of potatoes, please!) with a banana cut up to cool it off a bit. And

that evening meal ... hot sauce, beets, MB & R tastes so good. (I only

eat the lettuce because of all that heavy water that keeps me hydrated.)

5 - I always get negative when I get up to 7 or 8 thousand feet.

Just like White Tantric that initial headache feels so good when

it stops. It is a sign from your body, mind and soul that you really

do NEED to be up there working on yourself and allowing the place to

work on you. Breathe deeply, drink the water, do the yoga, move

around, circulate and allow the process to process you. You'll feel

better when it's over.

6 - I won't get up to get to sadhana there everyday anyway.

Really, when you think about it, it is kind of hard to " sleep in " up

on Ram Das Puri. I tried it one time and there is so much energy up

there that sleeping in is like trying to nap in the middle of a Super

Bowl ... can't be done.

7 - It's so dark in the morning.

Look up, see the stars. Meditate upon the swirling cosmos. Imagine the

stars are holes in the sky and their light, the light of heaven

offering us a glimpse of our future. Oh, and you can carry a

flashlight, you know.

8 - It's so dusty.

Yes! But it's a sacred dust. What's more sacred than the ancient dust from

the feet of the saints?

9 - It's so windy.

Yes, it is windy but it's a purifying wind. I've seen tents swirling

way above my head in a mini-tornado (or maxi-dust-devil). So yeah,

it's windy, blowing a lot of stuff away on a lot of different levels.

It's worth it to lean into the wind and feel the cleansing fingers of

wind probing at my innermost negativity.

10 - My feet crack in that dry atmosphere, last year they bled.

Then treat yourself right with some almond oil on your feet, a pair of

socks and don't bother wearing sandals with bare feet. Last summer

solstice they had foot baths out behind the First Aid cabin, maybe

they'll be there this time too! Treat your tootsies right!

11 - Sunblock doesn't smell like cookies anymore.

At my first Solstice I smelled cookies baking during White Tantric. I

thought it was a reward we were going to get for keeping up, so I kept

up. Turns out the most popular brand of sunblock had coconut oil in

it. Smelled like coconut macaroons. Strangely enough, I wasn't

disappointed when I found out the truth.

12 - That Healing Walk ... enough said.

If you don't do it, you don't understand what Mother Earth can do for

you. It's dusty, hot and healing.

13 - That road up to the solstice site rattles the fillings right out

of my teeth.

As long as you get there it will be worth it. Whether your car stops

at the top and refuses to go on, for a few minutes. It's worth it. The

road may not be getting smoother but the resolve we have does ease it

a bit. Anyway, it is getting kind of familiar and we all know the

places we HAVE to slow down on.

14 - There's going to be at least one night, maybe more, that the wind

will keep me up almost all night.

At least you know that the cleansing that Solstice is goes on

irregardless of whether you are awake or asleep. Just getting to Ram

Das Puri can change your life. DOING everything, or most things up

there will answer a need you didn't know you had. Besides, there's a

nap tent, go sleep it off after you do tantric or take a yoga class.

15 - White Tantric Yoga will be absolute hell.

Well, White Tantric's only my favorite part of Solstice AFTER it's

over. And I heard that at Winter Solstice Tantric was over by noon so

maybe it'll be one of those tantrics. We can just sit around enjoy the

burgers and catchup with a lot of old friends and new friends.

16 - You know its gotta rain at least once.

And maybe more than once if we're lucky. Yogiji once said the storm

was our ascendant relatives who have passed on gathering around us and

are now here with us, urging us to meditate, meditate, meditate so

they and we will all be liberated. Solstice is work, the highest and

the purest kind.

With much love and hoping to meet and see you there.

Sat nam,

Your posting made me laugh so hard! I've never been to White

Tantric, and now that I've read this, I'm not so sure I'd ever go!!!

LOL! It sounds like some sort of spiritual boot camp, with no rest

and no comfort of any kind. I've also heard it's very expensive.

Please enlighten me--Why would anyone go to Solstice?
