Guest guest
Sat Nam and Blessings to everyone. I am a KY teacher and also a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction teacher. I have been working with a group called Community Partnership for Mindfulness in Education and we have been teaching " mindfulness " in the public school system in Oakland, CA. It has been nothing short of AMAZING. I have recently been working with second graders as well as teens at an International High School. We have been very careful as to how things are presented and languaged. We go straight into the classrooms for 15 minute segments 3x per week for 5 weeks for the grade schools and try to do 20 minute segments 2-3x per week at the high schools (with some ideas percolating about creating a mindfulness leadership development program for the highschoolers). And, this really is YOGA. This is BREATHE. This is a tool to help these kids face the challenges they do and have some inner resources to deal the various stressors that they do, including family life that is often less-than-stable. ( and you should see the TEACHERS!!! they are usually so grateful for this tool for themselves and to have another tool they can help their kids with, like during test taking.) The classes have brought tears to my eyes on many occasions. To be in the position to teach such skills and allow light and love to come through me to these kids has been such an honor and a blessing in my life. I haven't specifically used any KY asanas but suspect i could and will in the future. I can say my KY training is " with me " when i am in there and shines through. I would be happy to share more of my personal experience with anybody who is interested in working in this area.
