Guest guest
I have recently had a few breakthroughs with sodarshan chakra kriya. One of them has been peace of mind. However, I can't ever seem to be able to stand at ease with determining its exact posture. My question is in regards to pumping. In the book Meditation as Medicine, Dr. Khalsa advices to pump the navel 3 times for each syllable. Unlike Dr. Khalsa, or perhaps being more specific than Khalsa, Yogi Bhajan in his book THE MIND, specifies that with each pump you don't release the pump, but you make it tighter with each syllable and release on roo (of wha hey gu roo. Is the latter the correct form of pumping?(please notice that this regards only to pumping, not breath control)

Guest guest
As far as I understand it, the pumping is 3 times per wahe guru, not per syllable. It's one pump for 'wa', one for 'he', and one for 'guru'. You'll hear many people give their own personal way of doing the pumping. One common thing you'll hear is that you're to pump in on 'gu' and release the navel on 'ru'. I've not been able to find this direction anywhere, and I think it's a case of somebody putting their personal method out there as if that's the way it was taught. Yogiji did teach on the video that was mentioned with no mention whatsoever of pumping. Compared to what he said later about sodarshan, the video is a really sloppy presentation of a very high kriya. When somebody started teaching SCK wrong sometime around 2001, YB came out with a precise statement saying how the meditation is to be done, and that was published, I believe, in prosperity paths newsletter at the time. As for it being a treatment for depression, I would definitely recommend against it. My experience with SCK is that it can bring up some very powerful emotions, including anger. Sat Kriya would be much better, I believe. At a conference of psychologists in Rome in 1989, Yogiji had a depressed and suicidal patient who was presented to him do sat kriya for 2.5. hours a day for 5 days to get him out of it. I would recommend 31 min a day for at least 40 days, if not 90, for depressed mood. hope this helps, -Baba Singh
Guest guest
Sat Nam dear Kundalini Yoga teachers and practitioners, It appears that there is more than one version of So Darshan Chakra Kriya in circulation. Nam Kaur checked with Yogi Bhajan, and he clearly confirmed that there is only one version of So Darshan Chakra Kriya. The correct description is included below. Here is what our Teacher had to say about it in Gurdwara on Sunday, December 22nd, 2002: " Now, most powerful and beautiful is So Darshan Chakra Kriya. I thought that I have taught for so many years, now people are ready for it. We didn't start teaching it the first day. For me (I do not know about anyone else) it took 30 years to be able to control my left and right nostrils without holding them with my fingers. And I still do that sometimes when I feel very weak - I use my hand and fingers. Somebody can say, " Switching nostrils is not needed since the air coming through the right nostril and the left nostril meets. " We shall not take any responsibility for such wrong practices! What the hell is one creating? Disturbing the pituitary, the master command gland? These kinds of jokes will end by themselves, but it will be dangerous for those who practice it wrong. There is nothing in the teachings which are not clearly stated and which have not worked accurately. IKYTA often receives questions from teachers about the science of Kundalini Yoga, asking if it is okay to substitute or delete exercises in a kriya, or teach only one part of a three-part meditation, etc. IKYTA has even been asked if it is okay to teach a Kundalini Yoga meditation in a Hatha Yoga class! Yogi Bhajan explained that this is not permissible, that Kundalini Yoga should not be mixed with other forms of yoga, and kriyas should not be changed in any way, except to shorten the times of the exercises if desired. I'll pass on another direct quote from Yogi Bhajan which says it best: " The Teachings are the Teachings, and have no one's personality in them. I never edit them; you should not edit them. It is a Golden Chain. My own prayer is that you can perfect what it is, and go with it. It is a funny thing. It is a three thousand year old proven path - it's not going to stop. Why do you want to add or subtract something - to satisfy your ego or convince students? It is very deceitful on the part of a teacher to teach teachings to please people. So honestly give people what we have. Teach like me. Teach exactly as it is. If you are not going to teach Kundalini Yoga purely, then don't teach it at all. With Kundalini Yoga you are dealing with the life force of the atom. Don't play with the pranic energy. " Sodarshan Chakra Kriya as taught by Yogi Bhajan (8/91 Espanola, N.M. and 12/12/90 Formello, Italy) " Of all the 20 types of yoga, including Kundalini Yoga, this is the highest Kriya. This meditation cuts through all darkness. It will give you a new start. It is the simplest Kriya, but at the same time the hardest. It cuts through all barriers of the neurotic or psychotic inside-nature. When a person in a very bad state, techniques imposed from the outside will not work. The pressure has to be stimulated from within. Tragedy of life is when the subconscious releases garbage into the conscious mind. This Kriya invokes the Kundalini to give you the necessary vitality and intuition to combat the negative effects of the subconscious mind. " Mudra: Sit with a straight spine: a. Block off the right nostril with the right thumb. Inhale slowly and deeply through the left nostril. Hold the breath. Mentally chant " Wha Hay Guroo " 16 times. Pump the navel point 3 times with each repetition, once on " Wha " , once on " Hay " , and once on " Guroo " – for a total of 48 unbroken pumps. b. Unblock the right nostril. Place the right index finger (pinkie finger can also be used) to block off the left nostril, and exhale slowly and deeply through the right nostril. c. Continue. Eyes: At the tip of the nose. (So Darshan Chakra Kriya is not to be done with the eyes closed.) End of Meditation: Inhale, hold 5-10 seconds, and exhale. Then stretch and shake every part of your body for about 1 minute, so that the energy can spread. Time Constraints: There is no time, no place, no space, and no condition attached to this mantra. Each garbage point has its own time to clear. If you are going to clean your own garbage, you must estimate and clean it as fast as you can, or as slow as you want. You have to decide how much time you have to clean up your garbage pit, but start practicing slowly - the slower the better. Start with five minutes a day, and gradually build the time to either 31 or 62 minutes. Maximum time is 2 1/2 hours for practice of this meditation. ......G
Guest guest
it's always a pleasant experience to see yogi bhajan on tape. So the purpose of wha hey guru is not exactly to pump the stomach but to " make " the sound in the stomach. That is almost another perspective. But I will stick to the explanation in yogiji's book " the mind " Thanks for your help Kundalini-Yoga , harharikaur <harharikaur wrote: > > I have recently had a few breakthroughs with sodarshan chakra kriya. > One of them has been peace of mind.
