Guest guest
Sat Nam, What about the CD by Snataum Kaur called Prem? Prem means Love and it is a beautiful CD with music that just makes one's spirit soar and heart open. I tend to cry with some of the songs. Namaste. Guest guest
I learned one at a Womens Yoga: Open Your Heart - Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini Yoga Class- Women's Camp 07/11/84 Before doing this meditation you need to circulate your system. Do some exercises before hand to get things moving. Then it will accelerate the opening of the heart center. 1. Sit in Easy Pose with your hands in Gyan Mudra and bring the wrists of both hands together at the diaphragm. The hands are at 90 degree angle to each other. The right hand is flexed upward with the palm facing left and the palm of the left hand is facing up with the fingers pointing out to the right. The mudra is resting against the diaphragm. Inhale and hold the breath in - focus on the spot where the Mudra touches your body (heart center). Hold your breath in as long as you can but don't feel too much pressure. continue and mentally chant 'Har' This is pretty powerful. If you are a beginner start 3 work to 11 and ultimate time is 45 minutes. The closest picture I can find as an example to the mudra is http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/history/images/hand5.gif Maybe if someone remembers the class can help with the picture. Guest guest
Sat nam! As you know, the heart center is the seat of the 4th chakra, Anahata Chakra. For healing, you can chant the bij mantra or the vowel for this chakra; both are very powerful. The big mantra for Anahata Chakra is YAM (the 'A' is pronounced like a the 'A' in the 'SAT' of 'SAT NAM' or the 'U' of 'HUM', but not like the vegetable yam ). You can either chant it in one full breath (inhale deeply, exhale completely 'YAM', inhale again and repeat) or repeat it more quickly ('YAM YAM YAM YAM YAM', kind of like 'HAR HAR HAR HAR', but perhaps a little faster). Both are effective, but you should experiment with what resonates with you. The vowel sound for the 4th chakra is 'A', pronounced in its long form as in 'ABLE' or 'LATE'. The vowel sound chanting I have found most effective when chanting one repetition on a complete breath (inhale deeply, exhale completely and chant one, long, resounding 'AAAAAAAAAAAA... " until you can exhale no more, inhale again, and repeat). Importantly, the tone of the the vowel sound is in musical key F or F#. Check out some chakra healing CDs and try to match your voice to the tone. There is no specific mudra that is required for this. Sometimes I have my hands in gyan mudra on my knees, other times in anjali mudra at my heart center, and other times with my hands placed lightly over the heart, projecting the healing vibrations back into myself. Either of these mantras/sounds, but particularly the vowel sound, can be done in a healing circle. In this arrangement, everyone present sits in a circle, and the person/people who need healing of the Anahata Chakra sit in the middle of the circle. The people in the circle chant the vowel sound, projecting it towards the heart center of the person in the middle of the circle; the person in the middle chants as well, but also receives the the healing vibration into their 4th chakra. Again, maintain the correct tone in F or F#; you'll know if you're in the correct tone when in a group because your own vibration will seemingly disappear as it merges into the group vibration. Both techniques are very effective. Some people have said that the the vowel sounds are particularly good for tuning the chakras each day. I would try them both, seeing which one works for you.
