Guest guest
Hi there - does anyone experience anxiety?? - I do and find it very annoying. I feel shaking trembling - I think it is connected to K - because I tremble internally -particularly at night when I stop for the day..- but subtly all the time. I have been reading all the emails and it is so wonderful to hear so many experiences that resonate with my own. Comments...I think it is true that our energies can be felt by others - maybe in more positive ways that we even know about...certainly I can relay that since my own k activation that people take a double look at me. I am having an experience at the moment of a chap being quite drawn to me but seeming to be somewhat confused by it too. Any insights! - I am starting to wonder if I have done something which of course I haven't Blessings Carol Send instant messages to your online friends http://au.messenger. Guest guest
Hello Carol, Yes the trembling or shaking. Part of it is the Kundalini continuing to run through the body and the body can only respond by shaking. Like a person who feels extreme bliss can only respond with sobs. Very similar. The other aspect is the infusion of the adrenals. This will add to the shaking and cause a form of anxiety and fear sometimes. Decrease the caffeine intake if you indulge there, and eat some watermelon if this is a concern for you. Tongue up, fingers locked, eyes up when you can. People will be attracted to you and will not know why. It is the energy, the Kundalini. Like insects to a light. I suggest that you be kind and gracious as much as possible, it will continue to happen for a time and it is a great opportunity to practice kindness. Just my thoughts on it Carol - blessings - chrism
Guest guest
Yes,Carol I often get this shaking feeling and I always eat something when I get that.I don't get it much at night anymore. As for the people who are staring at you,you better get used to it.Some might like the energy you give off and some might be afraid of it. Guest guest
Sat nam, ji's, I have a long time student of kundalini yogo who feels she has to stop practicing KY because she experiences heightened anxiety after class. She is suffering from anxiety and has been prescribed medication for it. I have known this person a long time, and she has been regularly attending KY classes for years, without experiencing anxiety. I suspect that her anxiety may be a reaction to what/whom she is going to encounter AFTER class, rather than a result of the class itself. I would be interested in any suggestions any of you more experienced teachers might have about kriyas (I have suggested Sat Kriya) or meditations that might help her manage her anxiety. Or any other suggestions, for that matter. Thank you in advance to all who reply! With gratitude, Jagatjeet
Guest guest
I have been practicing ky for a decade and am a teacher myself. I work specifically with people who undergo anxiety and to be honest, find it to be becoming more and more of a topic. I have found that anxiety is often a result of hightened psychic abilities and simply a trigger for the person to become even more calm, more spiritual and tune in. It may require MORE kundalini yoga practice, not less. Meaning early sadhana and evening sadhana. Ginger tea is great, bananas are great. Reminder that we are coming into a new age. The pituitary is working stronger and it is essential to make the nervous system stronger to work together with it- not against it. There are sets for nerves and anxiety as well, I find that the CD " Peace Lagoon " Incredibly soothing. One particular set for the nerves only takes 3 minutes. It is in Sexuality and Spiritiuality Page 133. Also, page 130 is " Mother Principle Meditation " she will feel well taken care of as she rises in hightened consciousness. Shannahoff-Khalsa the author suggest the meditation " When you don't know what to do " (you can find it here - http://www.pinklotus.org/-%20KY%20Meditation%20when%20you%20dont%20know%20what%2\ 0to%20do.htm). He says that " [...] this technique can help prevent any anxiety related disorder by helping the client induce a very quiet, still, peaceful, clear and stable mind. This is an excellent technique than can be used for prevention or simply to reduce daily mental and emotional stress and strain [...] This technique will help a patient learn what it means to have a very quiet, clear, peaceful and stable mind, a mind with a very little chatter [...] " When you don't know what to do " is an excellent and effective remedy for GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and can quickly help break the cycle of " persistent and excessive anxiety and worry occurring more days than not a period of at least 6 months " , wich is the definition of this disorder according to the American Psychiatric Association (1994). Not only will this this technique quiet the mind, but te entire body will become deeply relaxed [...] " I hope that can help you! Fateh Dharma! Guest guest
What I'd do, is encourage her to come to class and do the exercises more slowly and with awareness. Also being mindful of the breath - perhaps breath of fire isn't the best practice for her right now - she could try long deep breathing in exercises where breath of fire is used. Anxiety is an expression of fire and air elements. Breath of fire and quick movements will exacerbate this. Having her breathe all the way into the perineum (or even all the way into the soles of the feet) and make her movements more slow and steady will increase earth and water elements. You could also have her experiment with drishti - using the tip of the nose or simply closing her eyes, rather than the 3rd eye during most exercises. Possibly what has happened is that through doing KY, her energy has really started moving upwards. But upwards-moving energy out of balance can cause anxiety (fire and air move up and around, and can get out of control). So her practice now can focus more on grounding and awareness (earth and water), without continuing to move the energy so much. Guest guest
Here are some thoughts: Left nostril breathing, long deep breathing, inversions like shoulderstand, triangle, eliminate caffeine and chocolate and green tea, rigorously work with a mantra to keep unwanted throughts out of the mind, example, inhaling sat, exhaling nam, all day long Good luck. Guest guest
Hello, I have been reading these postings for years. They are wonderful! I have practiced Kundalini Yoga for the past ten years, and Hatha Yoga for the past 20. I make my living teaching Yoga and Ballet. I, too experienced anxiety when I first started practicing Kundalini Yoga. In my case, the class was too intense, and I needed to do less, rest between exercises on my back longer, and to just practice one simple beginner's set at home. I was also ungrounded at the time. I was struggling financially, not eating enough or drinking enough water, and I felt very unsafe and incapable of supporting myself. (I had just transitioned from a career where I had easily met my needs.) My feelings on KY are that it only brings up what is already there, (memories and feelings stored in the chakras that need to be healed.) If a student has a lot of trauma and unexpressed pain, this will come to the surface. As one of my teachers told me, " It's only energy. " Does she have a steady job? Is her house and car clean and orderly? Does she get regular intense physical exercise? It's very important when practicing Kundalini Yoga to have structure, order, and discipline in your surroundings first. Guest guest
Hi dear!Sat Nam! I am a volunteer to teach KY to those that suffer from anxiety disorders and I am studing and reseraching this so hard. The group is very heterogenous (social phobia, panic disorders, generalized anxiety disorder, ...). Many of them have comorbid deppresion. First of all, you need to understand the circunstances that it appears. What kind of person are you dealing with? Behaviour patterns? Body blocks? Can you note some pattern to solve problems? See his/her way of breathing in the different types techniques. Probably, if you try to remember this person in the class, you can reach many interesting answers. In general, in the group that I work, I can notice pretty good and positive changes. General good techniques:1. deep and long breathing in every single class;2. BOF in the movements3. kriyas for the upper triangle 4. Gong meditation5. Kirtan Kriya and other variations of SA TA NA MA´S meditationAh! David Shannahoff´s book is a very good choice to read to improve your knowledge about this subject. If you wanna email me to give more details, be my guest! Guest guest
Sat Nam Sangat, Regarding anxiety, does your student who experiences anxiety involve herself in SEVA? This has been a wonderful Rx for myself and the growing number of community members, recovering people and students who are experiencing today's anxiety. Wahe Guru, Sunder Kaur-Mpls. Guest guest
I was glad to see referral to a set from Sexuality and Spirituality referred in the discussion on anxiety..I have been quite busy running Sewall House right now to read all the posts but glad I saw this as I find it interesting that some boycott GuruRatana's books and some still use them. I personally love them but am sure this must confuse teacher trainees who see us using them and then are told they cannot be used..any comment?? Sat Nam and Blessings to all Amrita
