Originally from Patiala, Punjab, India now based in Toronto, Professor Paramjeet Singh is making his first visit to the Washington, DC metro area early next month. He will be giving a 3 day workshop on Gurbani Sangeet, August 4th – 6th in Herndon, VA and will be performing Kirtan at the Raj Khalsa Gurdwara Sahib in Sterling, VA on the evening of Friday, August 8th. Some of Professor Paramjeet Singh's well known students include Snatam Kaur and GuruGanesha Singh. Professor Ji is famous for his ability to teach children as well as adults. All ages are welcome! The 3 day course will consist of two major parts: Morning session (9:30am - 12:00pm): Professor Paramjeet Singh will lead his students in the traditional practice of Voice Cultures (aka Riaaz). Voice Cultures are a series of traditional (Indian Classical Music) voice exercises which are at the foundation of Gurbani Sangeet. Improving the voice range to 4 octaves, enhancing the strength of voice, curing the shaky voice, maintenance of tonal purity, deep and prolonged breathing techniques are some of the important things Professor Paramjeet teaches to his students during his workshops. Afternoon session (1:00pm - 5:30pm): Professor Paramjeet Singh will teach his students to sing shabads from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in their specified Ragas. Students can expect to learn musical compositions for Shabads in 4 - 6 different Ragas during the 3 day course. A simple vegetarian lunch will be provided on each of the course days.
