Event Description:

This 3 day kirtan workshop will provide a depth of knowledge and experience for

beginners and advanced students alike. A great learning opportunity for

children and

adults. All ages welcome!

The course will consist of two major areas of focus:

Voice Development (9:30am - 12:00pm): Professor Paramjeet Singh will lead his

students

in the traditional practice of Voice Cultures (Riaaz). Voice Cultures are a

series of voice

exercises which are at the foundation of classical kirtan. Improving the voice

range to 4

octaves, enhancing the strength of the voice, curing the shaky voice,

maintaining tonal

purity, and instruction of deep and prolonged breathing exercises are some of

the

important techniques Professor Paramjeet teaches to his students during his

workshops.

Classical Kirtan (1:00pm - 5:30pm): Professor Paramjeet Singh will teach his

students to

sing shabads from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji (the Holy Scripture of the

Sikhs) in their

specified Ragas (musical measures). Students can expect to learn musical

compositions

for Shabads in 4 - 6 different Ragas during the 3 day course.

A simple vegetarian lunch will be provided on each of the course days.

Students will be provided with a complete audio recording of the course for

reference and

continued study.
