Sat Nam,

Some teachers sing "Ad Gurey Namey" after "Ong Namo Guru Dev". Some not.

How Yogi Bhajan extacly told to do?

Thanks for your answers.

Sat Nam,

These two mantras provide a divine shield over the crown chakra and all

around you. Yogi Bhajan described the imagery of chanting " Ong, Namo,

Guru Dev, Namo " as four waves of protective energy from side to side

above the head. On " Ad Guray Namey " protective energy (of Guru Nanak) is

waved front to back along your right side; on " Jugad Guray Namey " from

side to side behind you (Guru Angad); on " Sat Guray Namey " from back to

front along the left side (Guru Amar Das); and on " Siri Guru Devay

Namey " Guru Ram Das's divine protective energy is swept from left to

right in front of you. The two mantras create a far-reaching sublime

cozy space for spiritual endeavors.

Sat Nam,

While working on my memoirs this morning I came across a folder of

preparatory meditations for healers that I put together in the eighties.

It includes the Ad Guray Namey mantra. Unfortunately there is no mention

of the date this teaching was given, but here it is word for word:

" Chant (this mantra) from the navel. Create a shield around all four

sides with each " Nameh " . It gives the power of knowledge of the past,

present and future. It gives clarity of mind, which brings compassion,

which brings God-like actions, which brings the resident capacity of God

in you. The Creator of the temple becomes resident in it. The walls of

ignorance fall away. "

All good reasons to chant it!

Loving Blessings,

The two mantras are separate in practice and in application, and should

not run into one another, if one even chooses to do both. It's totally

optional. In my practice I take a few moments before chanting "Ad Gurey

Namey" and often at a slightly different tone and meter.

>Thank you for such a detailed explanation. I have always felt the power of it,

and

encouraged the same faith in many, but it is great to hear a little of the

science behind it.

My mum has never practiced Kundalini, but believed in it so much that she won't

drive her

car until she has chanted it out loud from behind the steering wheel (in her own

melody) 3

times before starting up the engine. Both she and I swear by it.

Sometimes in an Aquarian type way, it is the experience that is as important as

the

explanation.

Light to all,

I don't know if Yogi Bhajan taught it or if the students added it

themselves, but when I asked him about it, he said chanting Ad Guray

Nameh after Ong Namo was optional, not required. Please note that

Nameh does NOT rhyme with may.

Sat Nam! It was taught (and practiced by) Yogi Bhajan but never required

for teaching a yoga class. " Aad Gurey Namey... " can be chanted after " Ong

Namo Guru Dev Namo, " after other mantras (e.g., Tud aagay aardas.... " ) or

alone by itself. It was not " invented " by any student.

Sat Nam,

It is not required to chant " Aad guray nameh " after " Ong

Namo... " when tuning in for a class. but there is nothing wrong with

doing it either. (At some point at Women's Camp this question was

asked and answered - and could probably be found as a direct quote by

anyone who searched that archive.)
