Guest guest
Sat Nam everyone: I just received a letter from my former student (she now lives in NYC). She has been recently hospitalized twice with severe migraine attacks. She is interested in Yoga and Wellness suggestions for curing this problem. I have referred her to a good teacher in her area and did some research myself. But I am sure that collective experience of so many wonderful teachers here can produce some beneficial advise on how to deal with and how treat migraine problem. Best regards, Vichar Kaur
Guest guest
Sat Nam I would first check her diet and make sure she is not eating foods with added chemicals. Then check for allergies. Also sinuses can be the cause so if the sinuses need attention she should take netis and/ or use nasya oils. Guest guest
Sat Nam! Yogi Bhajan gave a meditation to prevent migraines (NOT for when you are already having a migraine.) It is to be done daily for 3-11 minutes. Sit in easy pose (or lotus or half-lotus) and straighten the elbows and extend the arms downwards on each side of the body with the fingers straight and all 10 fingertips touching the ground. Long deep breath - inhale Sat, exhale Nam. Visualize that your head is filled with water. Consciously open a tap at the base of the brain and let the water drain out (as if through a pipe) down the neck, into the arms, down the arms, out through the fingertips and into the ground. Feel that the flow is easy and smooth and allow all the " water " to drain out into the earth. To end it, feel that your head is empty and weightless, inhale, hold, and relax. Shake the arms hands and fingers lightly and vigorously for 1 min. ......G
Guest guest
There is a lot of great support on the web for migraines: eliminating certain foods, etc. But Guru Dev S. once told me that if nothing else works you can eat nothing but beets for a certain amount of time, I'm not sure but I think he said 6 weeks. This is drastic, so I hope your friend finds relief through other methods such as, diet, chiropractic, homeopathy etc. Peace, Kartar
