Guest guest
Dear fellow members, I recently joined this online community to acquaint myself further with KY as I am about to start a KY class in Australia on the central coast. I was recently send the following link in response to another posting on another I belong to and it deals with some dangers regarding ky postures and the 3ho.org community. And I quote: " Some of the dangers of Kundalini Yoga and the use to which courses in this are put to recruit into the 3HO cult can be found at: http://www.rickross.com/reference/3ho/3ho8.html It would be interesting to see if the course facilitators get you to sign a medical disclaimer absolving them of any responsibility towards injury or hurt. Beware. " I would be grateful for some feedback from anyone especially as I am keen to start a ky class after being interested in this form of yoga for quite some time. Guest guest
Sat Nam, David, I'm sure other members of this group will address the main issues you raise in your post. I would like to say that I have yet to take ANY kind of yoga teacher training that doesn't require students to sign a waiver releasing the training organization from liability in cases of physical injury. I've taken two hatha yoga trainings and a meditation teacher training, and the release form is standard procedure in our litigious society. So it's not something peculiar to Kundalini training. Most places where yoga is taught, including private studios and Park Districts, require students in classes to sign off on the same sort of release, again, no matter what type of yoga is taught. Guest guest
I am so glad that you found this group to post your question. Kundalini yoga is very powerful and effective, but if it is done wrong it can be dangerous. That is why it is important to at least take the level one teacher training program to learn how to teach Kundalini yoga as the right (and safe) way. There are a number of people out there who claim to be teaching kundalini yoga, and may have the best of intentions and think that they are teaching kundalini yoga - but if it is not done the way that Yogi Bhajan (who presented this particular program of yoga) taught, then it is not kundalini. Although you can get an intellectual understanding of kundalini through books and websites, nothing can replace the actual human to human passing along of the teachings. It is people who try to do that, or people who learn from people who have tried to do that, who misrepresent the community. Please take the level one teacher training program. It is always wonderful to have a new kundalini teacher, and you will have quite an enriching experience. Until you take the program, best wishes to you in teaching whatever other programs of yoga that you teach. Guest guest
Dear David - Sat Nam. I have been practicing Kundalini Yoga and been a member of the 3HO community since 1972. In my experience, Kundalini Yoga is only beneficial to the body, mind and spirit - so long as it is practiced in a spirit of reverence, authenticity to the teachings, and under the guidance of a qualified teacher. As for the cult aspect - please look around you. Every culture has its cult aspect - its preconceived notions and prejudices. Yogi Bhajan worked hard to keep 3HO open and empowering, but still there are those who would worship the form rather than the spirit, engage in the politics rather than the spirit of service. You will find that everywhere. Do your sadhana. Keep alert. Serve and love and be slow to condemn others. In this way, you will be a great teacher and exemplar of the Aquarian age. FYI, here is what wikipedia has to say about Rick Cross: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Ross_(consultant). Since his early experiences with Jews For Jesus, he has had a passionate bias against unorthodox religious communities. I do not grant that Rick Cross is an authority on my lifestyle and my community. To me, 3HO is a precious community at a time when true fellowship is hard to find. It is a movement toward the betterment of humankind, one nervous system at a time. I am grateful to be a part of it. Guest guest
Sat Nam David, Yes you will need to sign a disclaimer before you practice yoga as it is an insurance requirement and provides you as a student with clear boundaries at the beginning of your practice. This is a requirement in Australia for all types of Yoga. While every safety and precaution is taken to ensure your wellbeing you are also responsible for your yourself and your experience. If you have experienced any medical condition it wise to seek medical advice before commencing your first class. I remember when I first read an article on that same website claiming that KY is a cult and I felt very worried and fearful, as I just signed up for teacher training. I then empowered myself to stick with my own experience and decide for myself if KY was a cult. After a few years of practice I can safely say for myself that I do not feel like I am a part of a cult but I do feel much happier, healthier and connected. I also love the opportunity to share this amazing technology with the community so they can also experience the benefits. It is important to remember that when we are working with this powerful energy and within a spiritual community we can have a spotlight shown on our own " stuff. " I encourage you to make up your own mind and discuss with your teacher if you feel anything cultish arises! I am a teacher on the Central Coast of Australia and it may very well be a class I offer that you attend and I would be happy to discuss these concerns with you in person and yes you will need to sign a disclaimer! Guest guest
Sat Nam David, I have been teaching Kundalini Yoga in Australia (Nth Qld) for several years and befire that was a Hatha yoga teacher. I read the link that you posted. I suppose that it is like anything else ...you will always get someone saying this and that about something. For example I read yesterday that water is bad for you. Some people will look for the bad in thngs. My advice to you would be follow your heart and if your heart says go to the Kundalini yoga class then go. You may be surprised at what you will expereince. blessings Barb (Didar Kaur) Kundalini-Yoga , " David " <dajomabu8 wrote: > > Dear fellow members, > > I recently joined this online community to acquaint myself further > with KY as I am about to start a KY class in Australia on the central > coast. > > I was recently send the following link in response to another posting > on another I belong to and it deals with some dangers > regarding ky postures and the 3ho.org community. > > And I quote: > > " Some of the dangers of Kundalini Yoga and the use to which courses in > this are > put to recruit into the 3HO cult can be found at: > > http://www.rickross.com/reference/3ho/3ho8.html > > It would be interesting to see if the course facilitators get you to > sign a > medical disclaimer absolving them of any responsibility towards injury > or hurt. > > Beware.
