Guest guest
Greetings:Most of my KY instructors have said 'let the breath come naturally' with Sat Kriya and Sa-Ta-Na-Ma, but I find I struggle with the breath. I feel as if I am suffocating when I do these kriyas. Makes me wonder if I suffocated in a past life....Anyway, I also just realized that I have been breathing incorrectly for 30 years! I have been sucking in my diaphragm on the in-breath and pushing out on the out-breath. Jeesh! So is there a kriya to teach one how to breathe? My abdomen is completely tight.Okay, that's enough from me for the day.Blessings
Guest guest
Hi , You can lie on your back and just practice deep breathing through your nose. It may help to place your hands over your lower abdomen, or one on your chest and one on your lower abdomen. As you inhale fill your lower abdomen, then your ribcage, and then your chest, then exhale chest, ribcage, and let the lower abdomen go in. This is very relaxing and healing to do before bed, in the morning, or anytime you need to relax. It's a good one to practice before class starts. Your probelem is common, and you'll get the coordination with practice. Guest guest
Sat Nam, A couple of suggestions for the breath: !. After over 20 years of Hatha yoga and some Kundalini yoga, I always felt very constrained in my breath. Then I got rolfed and my diaphragm opened up for the first time in my life! Rolfing is deep body work that releases the fascia to facilitate structural integration and alignment. The first session releases the diaphragm so that you can breath through the rest of the work. That was about 10 years ago and the change seems to be permanent - of course since then I have continued my practice and conscious work with the breath. 2. Work with a sandbag. Lie on your back with a yoga sand bag (10 lbs) on your solar plexus and work with long deep breathing. You can also practice LDB lying on your stomach with the arms folded under your forehead. In both positions, you are applying weight so that the diaphragm is encouraged to move in the correct way. 3. Relax, be kind and compassionate with yourself. You have spent your life breathing backwards, it might take a while to change it. 4. Check out " Divine Alignment " by Guru Prem Singh.
