FYI In November of 2000 I was living at Baba Siri Chand Ashram in FL and someone there told me that Yogi Ji said that if Bush won in 2000, progress in women's rights would be pushed back about 30 or 40 years.

did anyone else hear him say that or hear of him saying that? Just wondering.Guru Beant KaurBridget Kamke, LMTKundalini Yoga TeacherLicensed Massage TherapistChildren's Book Authorwww.infinipede.com

I read that Ram Das had a picture of Bush on his altar since it is

hard for him to love him!

Hard to love Bush? He's not exactly Jeffrey Dalmer! Might have, would

have, could have, how would electing John Kerry have changed the

advances in women's rights much differently than Bush? A president can

only do so much!

This reminds me of an interview I read once with Paul McCartney, one

of the most famous and loved men on the planet. He was talking about

how some people treat him as if he was a god, and some just want to

tear him down. He said, " People forget that I'm just some guy " .

So there are pros and cons to candidates to be evaluated and weighed.

Bad things happen to wildlife all over this country in the name of

" management " . A few years ago, the fish and wildlife bureaucrats in

Montana were determined to poison a river, the whole river from its

source to where it dumped into a larger river, to eliminate a

non-native trout that was pushing out the native. Every living

creature would be wiped as well, and as far as I know, they did it! I

was too disgusted to follow the story to its conclusion. These were

people who thought they loved the ecosystem and wanted to re-establish

the less prolific native population.

So I wouldn't come down too hard on Sarah Palin because some wolves

were shot from airplanes in Alaska- she wasn't shooting, and wolves

aren't exactly vegetarians themselves. In fact, come to think of it,

none of our presidential or vice presidential candidates are

vegetarian either. None of them have ever tried to stop wildlife

management in their states, as far as I know. Do you know that Biden

is a confirmed, repeat plagiarist and had his own presidential

aspirations quickly derailed when his history was revealed? Funny we

aren't hearing much about that. To me, character is high on my list of

criteria for public office, and I certainly don't want a plagiarist

only a heartbeat away. Or a president that sits for 20 years in a

church with a hate-spewing preacher.

Those are my priorities; are there yogis who can reply without

sounding like angry hornets? Show me your meditative minds!

Plagiarism, as far as I can tell, is a very widely used speech-writing

technique. In general, when someone is writing a speech (and it is usually the

speech writers, not the candidates), they go through many many past speeches to

find what was said about the issue before. I think some speech writers might

be more adept and hiding the originals than others, but I’m sure it’s

done universally. I don’t think plagiarism will affect my vote…..

While Bush may not have eaten those killed in the Iraq war, if you

hold him accountable for their deaths, his toll far exceeds Dahmer's.

The president is responsible for quite a lot!

As for killing wolves- I think it's just plain silly to hold it

against wolves that they are not vegetarian. They were not designed to

be veggie (look at their teeth!), unlike us, and have no conscience

about killing. They serve a very functional purpose in an ecosystem.

When they restored the wolves to Yellowstone, the aspen trees returned

with them. Predators are key to the delicate balance of life. Palin

attempted to exterminate 1400 wolves of a population of 2000 in one

area. The Native Americans in Alaska have written many articles

against her wildlife management, claiming that she is destroying their

game supplies. Check this site for more info.

I mainly vote on 2 issues- women's rights and the environment. These

are the two things I see affecting the earth for generations, although

I guess the economic bail-out could be in that category now as well!

Although being a yogi, I do seek to see God in all. I follow Guru

Singh's advice of wishing W well and attempting to do it with the same

energy that I direct towards my gurus....that is the challenge!

Happy voting,

Siri Ved Kaur of SF

It is true that Bush is not Jeffrey Dalmer--he has much more blood on his hands! Dalmer personally killed a handful of people in a very gruesome way. Bush, on the other hand, lied and deceived the country and the world to get us into an illegal, immoral and unnecessary war in Iraq. No one knows exactly how many people have been killed in this war but some estimate it around one million, not to mention the 4,000 U.S. soldiers. The man who actually won the election of 2000, Al Gore, has said he definitely would not have invaded in Iraq. This war, along with his disastrous economic policy, has bankrupt the country and now has us facing an economic meltdown the likes of which has not been seen since the great depression.

This is why many of us, along with Ram Dass (a.k. Richard Alpert) find it very challenging to love George W. Bush. I remember reading some of Ram Dass's writings about Bush, he basically said he had compassion for him because he was going to have to pay an incredibly high karmic price for all the people he has killed and all the suffering he has caused in this life.
