In response to your question about how to time it without a CD, I use a regular

clock and I peek at it periodically. I chose peeking at the clock because it

seemed less disruptive then using a kitchen timer and having it beep at me and

having to stop and start it. All that would mess up my mudra. I have been doing

Kundalini yoga since 1997 and I have a general sense for how long I'm doing

something, so I don't have to look too often. Or sometimes I just do it with no

timer and just feel when it is time to shift the voice to the next volume. The

occaisional peeking hardly takes away from my meditation.

Sat Nam,

You can also purchase a timer which automatically resets itself to count

down the same time -- that way you don't have to stop to reset it. It

makes a soft " beep " once at the end of 5 minutes (or whatever time you

set it for) & then begins counting down 5 minutes again. It continues

until you turn it off. I purchased one from a yoga supplies website

although I can't remember which one. :-)

Here is an option on timers, the Enso Clock, find at: http://www.salubrion.com/.

I have not purchased one but the features seem perfect for meditation: 4 choices

of

sounds, three sequences of timing memory and with each sequence you can have a

sequence of 50 times.

For kirtan kriya you could set: 5 outloud, 5 whisper, 11 silent, 5 whisper, 5

outloud. The

only downside is that the timer only calculates at one minute increments and not

seconds.
