Sat nam,

Hyperlordosis is usually present when the psoas muscles(aka hip flexors)are too

tight. Camel pose helps stretch them. So does cobra, pigeon (from hatha, i

think)and wheel. The student would benefit greatly from an LMT who knows how to

work the psoas properly (many don't do abdomens at all, don't feel comfortable,

didn't learn it). Also, she/he should take care to use the right muscles (the

abs) during stretch pose so as to not accidently engage and thus further tighten

psoas. Stengthening the abs properly can help better align the pelvis. Maybe a

little bit of pilates with a personal trainer just to get the understanding of

the " core " . Laying backwards over something big and round like a yoga ball can

stretch the psoas too.

Sat Nam

We often speak of 'stretching' muscles but the fact is that muscles only contract.

When the major Psoas muscles have remained in a contracted state for some time, it is important to focus on relaxing them. One of the most effective ways of doing this is to lie on the back, place lower legs on a chair or stool so that legs form a 90 degree angle, and stay in that position for 30 minutes. Allow the spine and shoulders to melt gently into the floor and relax all the muscles in the back.

This is, of course, very good for the spine also and is great for de-stressing.

With blessings to all,
