Sat nam everyone.

 

I have two students who approached me last week about two separate

concerns. I have combed my two boxes full of resources with no result

of information. Hence my plea for information that you might have.

 

The first was a student who has tension at the jaw joint. She

believes that she grinds her teeth (did Yogi Bhajan say this was

positive?). Her chiropractor is beginning to see how this tension and

rigidity is affecting her entire spine and posture. Is there any

particular movement or natural treatments that she might be able to do

at home? I suggested seeing her dentist for a bite guard, as I know

that has helped me.

 

The second was a student who is trying to get pregnant. She

miscarried last April and has been trying for a while to get pregnant.

The couple have created the right environment for a baby (I have the

book: the gift of giving life), and are in a strong, powerful

relationship. Are there any particular foods that she might want to

consume, asanas that would be helpful, lifestyle changes that might

aid, etc.. I suggested doing shoulder stand after intercourse, saying

prayers of gratitude daily, and setting intentions to release to the

universe.

Dear Santokh Kaurji,

Please have your students contact a medical doctor about their situations. The following is only an opinion, not a diagnosis, not a prescription.

I don't know what will work for your students, but in the past others have had success with TMJ (tempromandibular joint) stress with kundalini yoga on a regular basis. With TMJ the breath regularity is essential. If one is holding the jaw, there is no way they are concentrating on the breath. It is hard to do both at the same time.

Massage therapy on the masseteur muscle and temporalas major as well as craniosacral therapy can help relax the area and improve respiration.

Jade herbals (are they still in business?) has a formula "Fertile Garden" for women that I heard has given results in conjunction with deep tissue massage to release tension in the female organs.

The opinion of a medical doctor is essential in this case to see if her eggs are being released, her tubes are clear (no scarring) and whatever else can jam up the works in her reproduction process.

BOOK: Sprouts For The Love Of Everybody: Viktoras Kulvinskas, talks about sprouts and effectiveness conception and delivery in bovines who have had trouble with birthing in their health history. This book is inspiring. The text even gives hope for potential solutions towards world health and hunger problems!

There is at least one set in a manual, which contains only 5 sets,

that has many exercises for the jaw. I don't know the name of the

manual. It has a white background with greenish lettering and a

picture of a woman doing tree pose on the cover.

Craniosacral therapy is also very effective with TMJ issues. One can go to the Upledger Institute and find practitioners in a specific area.

 

They might also consider working with someone to unravel the inner messages beneath the physical symptom. As a BodyMind Coach, I see symptoms in the body as communication from our Infinite Self saying that something internally is out of balance; in some way we are not living our truth. With my clients I explore what the underlying behaviors or patterns might be about. I find that once the root issue has been brought to the light, acknowledged and accepted, and if any action is needed it can be taken, that the problem symptom shifts well.

In my teacher training, the teacher said that the LAAAAAAAAA meditation was very good for the jaw and TMJ problems. He is also a chiropractor. I think the following is from my class notes:

 

LAAAAAAAAAAAA Meditation

 

There is a meditation that seems to help TMJ.Inhale in a whistle with pursed lips.

Exhale by chanting a loud & long LAAAAAAAAAwith the mouth wide open, like an opera singer, until need to inhale.

 

Time: 7-11 minutes

Allow the vibration to penetrate the jaw.

Comment: Useful for those who have blocks in their 5th throat) chakra, TMJ irritation and teeth grinding.

I was in a class one evening when Yogiji taught an

exercise for adjusting the jaw. “Trace the upper and lower teeth, inner

and outer sides, in both directions at least 3 times. It becomes a kind of

figure ‘8’ pattern.” It seems to have the effect of both

releasing and aligning the TMJ. From the bioenergetics’ (a

somatic/relational approach to psychotherapy) perspective, tension in the jaw

relates to unexpressed aggression and / or anger.
