Guest guest
I want to memorize as much as I can of Japji, but I have a question. SHould I start in English or Gurmuki? I have those Japji cards so I can do either. My other problem is pronunciation. I am not near anyplace where I can go learn Gurmuki, is there a good website or podcast? Since you're not not near to someone where you can go learn Gurmuki, I suggest you to buy the " Sadhana for the Peaceful Warrior " (Karta Singh & Friends) or " Japji - Song of the Soul " (Guru Raj Kaur) - you can also see online checking for " japji download mp3 " etc. - With these disk recordings (some is slow) you can follow a text as the one on sikhnet.com (http://www.sikhnet.com/sikhnet/Register.nsf/Files/PDABanis/$file/Japji%20-%20En\ g-Rom-Gurm.doc) and slowly learn the right pronunciation. Guest guest
Sat Nam Sarinder Kaur, I full heartedly encourage you to start with Gurmukhi. It is so worth it! Those who learn pronunciation through transliterations get set in misperceptions and have a hard time changing over to correct Gurmukhi, which is phonetically very specific. The Gurmukhhi alphabet chart is practical. It shows where to place your tongue and when to use or not use air or tone with each letter by its placement in the chart. Once you are familiar with the letters, assure that your pronunciation is correct by reading Japji in Gurmukhi while listening to a slow recording of it by (best) a native Punjabi. Gradually increase your speed. Different speeds of tapes are available at Ancient Healing Ways. Resonate Gurmukhi with the Guru. Whenever you take a step towards the Guru, he takes a thousand steps toward you!
