Guest guest
Dear Ones - It is unfortunate that has little respect for the privacy of its members. The following is cross-posted from another list. It explains what is doing and how to opt out of the process. The instructions given are pretty clear, but makes it a bit of a hassle to actually get the opt-out done. It may take a bit of patience to get through it. Our continues to be a great forum for communicating events of interest to our network of people near and far. In that respect it is a valuable asset. There are few other options available at this time (Twitter? Facebook? MySpace? Google Groups? --- Are they any better privacy-wise? ). We are fortunate to be seeing the inception of the network-age. The physical structure of the noosphere is beginning to be laid down as more and more people connect via the various Internet mechanisms coming into being, of which is one. It is up to all of us what kind of world we create. If privacy issues are a concern, do let know. You can also post your concerns wherever you go on the 'Net, and call or write your representatives. Here's to the new, interconnected, world. May it be one of peace and goodwill! Guest guest
I am a web programmer and I used to work for . So I can tell you that it is not correct that a web beacon: "allows to record every website and every group you visit, even when you're not connected to ". This is not possible. It is only possible if you have a " Toolbar" installed and running on your browser (and I'm not saying that toolbar does this, only that it would make it possible). The web beacon is on web sites and, in some cases, their partners web sites. It transmits information to or it's partners about your web browsing and clicks *on those web sites that are using the beacon only* ( or it's partner site). Information would be associated with either a) your browser and /or b) your user id. It is not associated with any personal information like your name, address, etc. This information is used to "Personalize your browsing experience" (i.e. to display targeted advertizing) when you are on these sites. This practice is benign and common. The only danger is seeing too many ads for things that you are interested in, which may lead to impulse purchasing ;-). --Lisa --- On Sun, 1/4/09, Abbe Anderson <abbedoesindia wrote: Abbe Anderson <abbedoesindia privacyKundalini-Yoga Date: Sunday, January 4, 2009, 7:23 AM Dear Ones -It is unfortunate that has little respect for the privacy of itsmembers. The following is cross-posted from another list.
