Get Your Kundalini Moving!

Kundalini yoga is one of the most effective forms of yoga when it

comes to increasing circulation. The idea behind the practice as a

whole is to increase your kundalini energy--the energy that is coiled

along the spine. According to Siri Sat from PURE Yoga in New York

City, " Kundalini yoga increases circulation through physical postures

(asana) and often repetitive movements, which increase the heart rate

and internally massage tissues and organs. This leads to improved flow

of blood, lymph, cerebral-spinal, and other body fluids. From a

cardiovascular perspective, Kundalini yoga often incorporates

exercises such as bending, twisting, jumping, shaking, and dancing to

stimulate the heart. " Try this Side Twist to warm up your spine, and

stimulate your energy:

 

-Sit on your heels (you can also do this standing up) and place your

hands on your shoulders, fingers in front and thumbs in back. Keep

your back straight and tall.

-Keep your elbows parallel to the ground.

-Inhale as you twist to the left. Exhale as twist to the right. Allow

your head to twist to each side as well.

-Start slow, but as your spine warms up, increase your speed until you

are swiftly rotating back and forth. Gradually feel an increased

rotation in your spine.

-Continue for 1–2 minutes or 26 rotations on each side.

-Finally, return to the center and inhale deeply into your belly. Hold

the breath for 5–10 seconds before deeply exhaling, as you allow your

energy to root down into the ground.
