Guest guest
Sat Nam dear Brother and Sisters. I recently posted abut hip and knee problems. Everyone was so very kind about their support and I am working with the issue and gaining ground and insight. During that time, There was a response to my post that suggested that I should not practice KY from books and DVDs. This response has bothered me for awhile and I was interested in what members of the group thought. For the sake of discussion I will offer some of my own thoughts. I choose to live rurally which means practicing in isolation. Part of my understanding and belief about KY is that in the beginning of practice we draw upon the golden chain of teachers. Often I feel my own teacher from several years ago and 3000 miles away encouraging me on during challenging times of practice. I feel I always have the presence of guides within myself and my life as I move forward in practice. I appreciate all of your thoughts, gudiance and concerns in this matter as I choose what works in my own practice. Blessings and Peace to all. Guest guest
If you don't have a teacher to practice with then what are manuals and DVDs for and why are they avaialble?? And you have this group tp ask questions to. As long as you understand how to practice Kundalini Yoga properly I would not see the problem tho others may argue this. Secondly i remember hearing that third eye focus stimulates intuition and tip of the nose fixes the mind..anyone else hear this?? Also interested in matrika shakti..?? this eye focus discussion has been really interesting, thanks all! Amrita www.sewallhouse.com the more I know the more there is to learn! and I agree the knowledge IS in the practice..SAT NAM!
Guest guest
Yes, I full-heartenly agree with Donna. That said, I reiterate what I said that influenced your thread. I with all sincerity suggested that you look for an actual teacher, as I believe that you said you have never taken a class (is that correct, or did I misunderstand you?). There are a lot of teachers out there, I believe I once read the Yogi Bhajan recruited the most teachers of any other form of yoga? There should be pretty much zero trouble finding a class that is inexpensive. There is no sense in being " troubled " by what other people say here - we are all equal here. I was merely being honest and telling you there there are asanas in any kind of yoga, where you can really hurt yourself and end up in the hospital. We all start off with teachers/gurus, of course some of us don't, but we should. Please take care.
Guest guest
From your post. " Since I practice only with the guidance of books and online sources I truly feel wrapped in the loving guidance of those in this group " . Does this not insinuate that you do not have, or ever had, a teacher? Like I said, we are all a profile on these message boards until we take the time to really open up, and even then, it doesn't mean that every member is reading what is being written. That's what I meant when I said that we are all equal here - backgrounds, ages, problems, don't matter or separate us. All that matters is what is being discussed, and it was clearly written that there is no teacher involved, and it was also clearly not written that there ever was one. I don't appreciate that you victimize yourself because one anonymous person said that you can get hurt without guidance. If you did have a teacher that taught you everything, as you now imply, it sounds to me like you would still benefit from the inspirational talks at the beginning of class, and the chats at the end, because clearly there are some insecurity issues weighing you down. It's healthy to connect with people in the flesh, where you can interact with each other's electromagnetic fields. Books and dvd's will never cut it, (not to mention, if you had a teacher, why do you need outside sources?). Yogi Bhajan said that we need to achieve collective consciousness, this is an impersonal message board, that's all. Try not to get so upset online, or else your goal to achieve peace and happiness through your videos will stand a harder chance than they already do. Best. Guest guest
> > >Hi Elin, I think people just mean that if you practice wihtout knowing how to create a balanced kriya, (flexing the spine, stretching the sciatic nerve, working the navel center, and charging up the magnetic field,) you may have problems. Also, the sets designed for beginners are excellent for building a foundation while the chakras clear. When I first started KY I didn't have a teacher. I didn't know about tuning in, or out, and I overworked my first chakra, making up my own class (which was totally unbalanced,) with the book The Eight Human Talents. I followed a video that did the exercises much too long for a beginner. I had a very negative reaction. I was blasting energy upward, and was very ungrounded in my home and work life. Fortunately, a teacher came to town and after taking classes with him and buying the books he suggested, I was able to practice on my own. I started with the basic spinal energy series, and did it each morning. It sounds like your practice is going very well. Living in a rural area is wonderful for doing yoga. Feeling your guides with you shows that you are connected and in tune. Your body will tell you the truth, and it sounds like you are right in the flow. Some personalities are more drawn to a discipline and working on their own. I know other people (who study other types of Yoga, who don't practice, they just take class.) It's a different energy and result. Satpal Kaur > I recently posted abut hip and knee problems.
