Guest guest
Here is our latest in a long series of correspondence with my Mother. Below is our previous interaction, below that is her recent response and mine in turn. I have asked her not to engage me in this conversation any longer because it never leads any where productive and I have a tenancy of getting angry and defensive and it ruins part of my day like today for example I have spent my usual Sadhana time dealing with this and now have to do Sadhana this evening. The reason I am posting this is because I would like your input on a healthier way to deal with this. Keep in mind that her and I have been having this conversation my whole life. I have gone around and around with my stance on this topic and at this point I do not believe that I or any one else is going to hell because of the fact that I believe that there are more than one way to know God. In other words Christ's blood on the cross is not the only way. She insists on pushing her agenda on me at the expense of our relationship. I told her to not contact me any more as a result. What do I do now??? Her e-mail to me last week: Did my Yoga this am. The instructor backs off the philosophy, but shoots out some hints about what yogis teach. What I hear seems hopeless and doesn't jive with what I see. I don't understand what the final outcome is in this philosophy (and all have an outcome if you follow the logic all the way through to the end). Any easy way to unpack it for me? My responce: Ill try to summarize it. The mind is conditioned to respond to the circumstances of life based on all the past experiences from life. All this " stuff " is stored in the un-conscience and sub-conscience mind and in cellular memory in the body and it pops out in to the present moment at random or as a result of events that trigger a response. When unconscious of this fact people go through their life reacting to the circumstances around them rather than consciously acting. Many of these responses can take the form of fear, judgment, self doubt, attachment, neuroses etc. All this " conditioning " prevents people from being who they truly are, who God made them to be. Yoga and meditation bring you to a state of awareness often referred to as being present. It is a natural organic process that happens often times unbeknownst to the practitioner. As you practice, little by little one layer of conditioning (or illusion) at a time is removed as your awareness expands allowing you be preset and stop spending your energy on fear, judgment, self doubt, attachment, neuroses etc. Allowing you to move through life from a place of conscious choices rather than conditioned response. Most people first notice this effect in their physical body, which when in tune with its true nature begins craving food and experiences and circumstances that are supportive to you. It eventually grows as your awareness grows on a much more subtle and profound level. When you begin to remove this conditioning you become more aware of your " internal guidance system " . Some people call it internal wisdom or intuition, some people call it Atma, some people call it your true or higher self, some people call it the Holy Spirit, some call it God. Call it what you like, its the same thing. So as consciousness (awareness) expands and conditioning is removed you become free to experience God in your life guiding every step of the way with out the " filter " of conditioning (or illusion) distorting your perception of God. It is not necessary to understand this process because it happens by its self, without understanding or contemplation. It happens with or without yoga or effort, though it can take much much longer under natural unaided timelines. This is just one way, though be it a very effective one, to accomplish the same goal. There are many paths to the same end. No hope necessary it just happens Her response today:2/06/09 Hi Matt, We will be here Sunday. I love you, and if you chose not to come because of this response, know that I obey the Holy Spirit's leading, and your eternity is more important to me than the fact that you don't like an exchange of ideas among two intelligent people. You don't know Christianity, yet, you didn't get to know Christ. There is no Yoga for me to get to know. I cling to a person, who walked, talked and died for me, and you. You should question for yourself why the blood is so offensive to you, because, and I say this prayerfully, when you figure that out, you will be enlightened. Yoga or any other belief system doesn't offend me, it makes me curious. You sent me a paragraph of Yoga philosophy, and I haven't responded fully to what you wrote yet, but I had assumed you were open to figuring out what it is that sets Christianity apart from all other world views based on a conversation we had in December concerning what God considers an acceptable sacrifice-and it all revolves around the blood of Christ, a subject you said you were going to study for yourself. I still can't figure out what the end result of Yoga philosophy would be. For Christianity it is spending eternity with a God of love, any other world view seems to take paragraphs to explain including all the things one has to do to get to a very vague and misty end result. Christianity isn't a judgment I make, it is a free gift, and why it has to be one in which God chose to sacrifice Himself, I can't answer. But thank God He sacrificed Himself for us. What is it about the blood? We have to defend our faith, not be defensive because of it. All paths can't end at the same place because they disagree with each other. What is the stadia rod of truth if it is not what God says about Himself, and why can't it be an intellectual discussion? I love you, and I'm sure I'm cut off now. Mom My reply: As I told you before I am not interested in continuing this line of conversation relating to my spiritual belief system. I asked you to not go there anymore im tired of hearing it. You have pushed it to the point where I dont want to deal with you any more since you insist on continually pushing your beliefs on me. You said the holy spirit is more important than our relationship. So be it you made your choice please leave me alone.
Guest guest
Sat Nam Matt! Just a few things popped up as I read your post. First of all we are presently in a very unique planetary field. With the new moon and solar eclipse of Monday January 26 through the rare astrological concentration on February 14 we are given the opportunity to let go of what no longer serves us. The Moon in Libra enters the seventh house of relationship and in the presence of the wounded healer Chiron and so is presenting a chance in your relationship with your mom to heal the inner child. A full moon and lunar eclipse this Monday is a powerful energy for you to access and bring a newness to the relationship with your mother. It does not seem as though you really wish to dismiss her, you have chosen her for whatever lessons you chose to learn this lifetime. Remember she is just playing a role for you and your inner growth. I see the correspondence between you two as a battle of wits which really has nothing to do with true inner spiritual growth. Your connection to God is an experience that needs no justification. Her connection also should be her own experience not some rote memorization or playful wording. If you are not yet ready to do the work there is the possibility that you can just agree to disagree for now, or focus on what you two have in common and let go of the differences. The 1000 day Meditation that begins with our incredible Aquarian line up is perfect timing for you and your mother. Heal that relationship and it will have an incredible rippling effect of healing for the whole planet! We are one! In the light of your Soul is such love and compassion for your mother it will outweigh all differences and schisms. Just tune in to it. All the best. Blessings and Love, Guru Ravi Who's never won?
