Early Morning Sadhana Timing

Sat Nam!

I am a bit confused about Sadhana timing. I see in the Sadhana

Guidelines it says that the start time is 3:45 am. Many group sadhanas

in the Winter Months start and hour later. Any idea on the why and

when do you go back to the 3:45? Daylight savings time? Spring Equinox?

My sense is that different practitioners do it the way they want and

the Guidelines are well...guidelines.

What do you all think?

Blessings,

The " general " rule is to arise and meditate two and a half hours before the Sun

rises. It has to do with the angle of the Sun being at 60 degrees to the earth

and therefore ideal for meditation.

The little differences you might note are variations in scheduling. When I

worked a full time day job we had to start Sadhana by 4 AM so I could attend all

the way through Gurdwara. Now that I am semi retired we start later 415 / 430

and stil finish before sunrise. As the days get longer and the Sun comes up

earlier, we'll move it back towards 4 AM.

These kinds of rules are not set in stone, adjust them as you need to in order

to accommodate your requirements. Of course, when you get to solstice and White

Tantric is involved all bets are off since a large number of folks are involved.

As long as I can chant, meditate, bow and get my prasad, my day has started

right.

The story behind the story or the 'sutra' as to time/sadhana as I understand.

I am paraphasing...2 and 1/2 hour before the rise of the sun...when the sun is

at 60

degree to the earth...do your sadhana...devote 10% of your time...to

Infinite...to God...to

Yourself...

The suns power and 60% am is the best because...I would like to hear from

others...

Clock time is a short cut and a way for a group of people to organize and do

sadhana

together.

Sat Nam Har Simrit Kaur,

Further thoughts are gathered here..... http://amritvela.org/

including some Q & A with Yogi Bhajan.

You ask a good question. I hold, as a guideline, that the meditations

are finishing just as the sun rises. That would be "purity".

The thought of starting a group Sadhana so late that one is no longer

meditating in the predawn just snatches away a lot of the magic, for me.

"The entire group finds its energy directed by the activity of

the

Sadhana itself. The individual auras merge and form a group aura. If the

group is well tuned to the infinite, a rainbow aura forms that reflects

all colors. A bluish color of sincerity and devotion predominates. The

strength of a community is directly proportional to the strength of

their group Sadhana."
