Guest guest
Sat Nam. I am new to kundalini yoga, having begun to practice a few times a week a few months ago, and making it part of my daily practice in the last few weeks. I've enjoyed being part of this group -- thank you for sharing your wisdom/knowledge/experiences. I am wondering if there is any information about how a beginning kundalini yoga practice may affect a woman's menstrual cycle and hormonal balance, particularly in regard to breast health. Today is day one of my cycle. Yesterday I found a pea-sized lump in my right breast, as well as a larger " band " of tissue nearby. It seems to have " appeared out of nowhere. " I visited my nurse-practitioner right away, and she suggested a digital mammogram and ultrasound at the end of my moon cycle. I am 34 years old and in very good health. I genuinely enjoy my moon cycle, and am very mindful of my natural rhythms and the accompanying cyclical changes that occur in my body. I am not panicking about this; just watching and waiting, and sending love and gratitude to my breast and body. (This in an of itself is a gift of kundalini yoga's amplified presence in my life!) I'm aware that these significant changes in my breast tissue may be entirely hormonally related. Have any of you experienced a similar situation yourself, or in a student/client? My gratitude for this group and, in advance, for your replies. Sat Nam. --Trish
Guest guest
Dear Trish, I have not been in your situation, but I do know that Frog Pose is recommended for breast health. Also the breasts are related to the knees. So keeping your knees strong and healthy is also important. There are some nice kriyas for women in the "Slim and Trim" manual. For the menstrual cycle the backward bending postures when prone are highly effective. These are Locust pose, Boat pose, Cobra and, my personal favorite, Bow pose. Do them all month long for best results. Wishing you wellness, Kartar Kaur
Guest guest
I recommend The Complete Natural Medicine Guide to Breast Cancer by Sat Dharam Kaur Khalsa, ND (Naturopathic Doctor). It's a very comprehensive guide to breast health and cancer prevention.
