Guest guest
Sat Nam! I am wondering if any of you lovely yogis and yoginis have found a way to successfully combine Kundalini yoga and Bikram yoga. I love the physical effects of Bikram yoga and love the spiritual path of Kundalini. With and children and work and friends it seems difficult to fit 2 styles of yoga into my life. The methodical focus on posture and alignment in Bikram has really helped me heal from old injuries. Also, there may be merit to the detox effect of the heat and sweat. However, the actual practice takes a lot of time and omits mantra and meditation. Thanks for your feedback, Kirstin
Guest guest
Hi Kirstin, I no longer practice Bikram Yoga, but I did do the sequence daily for two years. (at home without the heat.) I learned it on the road with Sugar Babies from Juliet Prowse. I also took a couple of classes from Bikram. Personally, I had the same benefits you describe. It healed my knees, which had been causing me pain as a professional dancer for 15 years. It also made me more flexible and brought out a very defined musculature. In retrospect, (I had practiced Integral Hatha Yoga for 10 years before that,) it brought up my Kundalini energy. I went through a period of being ungrounded and out of work, then got back on track. My switch to Kundalini Yoga has become smooth and nurturing, after a rocky start. Like you, I wanted more meditation and chant. Now I do Russian ballet and Stretch classes for the physical, as well as lots of dog walking and gardening. I've found the need to balance all spiritual work with chores, grounding, and organization. I don't like to mix Yoga styles, because personally I've had bad reactions. If you do, I would recommend not combining them, but doing them at separate times or on separate days, keeping the teachings pure. i think you'll find a routine that works for you. Repetition brings about balance and adjustment. Satpal Kaur
Guest guest
All yoga is basically good. When I started out, I would go to a hatha class one day then kundalini the next... alternating however I saw fit. The Hatha classes kept me grounded in my body because the headiness of the kundalini took getting used to. Yoga is a tool. Use it to leverage whatever you need to in your life. Make it work for you. It's not like a gang where you have to pick a side and wear only those colors. : )) Sat Nam Patrick http://www.kundaliniyogabootcamp.com Kundalini-Yoga , " Wolff, Kirsten " <kwolff wrote: > > Sat Nam! > > I am wondering if any of you lovely yogis and yoginis have found a way > to successfully combine Kundalini yoga and Bikram yoga.
