Free concert & Indian music classes for teens - Mt Washington Los Angeles

 

Spread the world to musical youths in Los Angeles! Community artists from the

Sangeet School in North East Los Angeles have created a unique opportunity for

this spring through the Music LA Program, giving FREE classes of Indian and

creative world music for young musicians ages 13-18 in North East Los Angeles

throughout May & June. More info online...

 

An opening concert featuring sitarist Paul Livingstone and Arohi Ensemble will

play Indian classical and Raga Jazz music at Ave 50 Studio in Highland Park on

Friday, May 8th at 7:30pm following the workshop registration at 7pm. All events

are FREE and the concert is open to all! Ave 50 Studio is located at 131 N.

Avenue 50 (2 blocks east of Figueroa) in Highland Park (Los Angeles) 90042.

 

The free workshops will be held on Thursdays from 4:30-6:30 & Sundays from 2-4pm

for 8 weeks beginning on Thursday, May 14th at the Jack & Denny Smith Community

Center on the campus of Mt. Washington Elementary School, 3981 San Rafael Ave.

and the Friends of Mt Washington School!

 

This unique opportunity will provide young musicians will the opportunity to

learn sitar and tabla, as well as apply instruments they already play (guitar,

strings, winds & percussion) in a creative ensemble applying exciting concepts

from Indian music into crossover music blending rock, jazz funk & Hip Hop into a

creative world music experiment called the SHPLANG Ensemble!
