Guest guest
A friend of mine was recommended to practice Sodarshan Kriya for 62 min, 90 days, in order to clean some issues related with her childhood and her father. After two weeks of practice she started to feel like vomiting in the middle of the exercise and also she had a kind of little convulsion: she reduced the intensity of her breathing and continued doing it. She is very worried because she started developing a strong pain in the middle of the back and a kind of drowsiness in her body, moreover, she feel a great heat in her brain, particularly the left hemisphere. She would like to listen some experiences and asks if somebody can help her to clarify whether she is doing it right or if anybody has experienced something similar when doing Sodarshan. Thanks for any advice that I may transmit her.
Guest guest
those could be side effects of sck, apparently there could be a lot of garbage store in our minds. SCk is best recommended in conjunction with other kriyas, particularly the kirtan kriya, since it balances one's body. I have also felt heat with sck. Maybe you could advise her to do less than 62 min. You usually begin with about 5 min and build up. However, this experience keeps making me amazed at the effects of such a powerful kriya. Guest guest
Man, that's pretty scary sounding... It's such a powerful kriya, so it really must be done with grace... Working up to full times is good, but taking it easy with the intensity of the pumps is the first place to start. These can be subtle tiny pumps. Doing it for 62 minutes requires a smoother intensity than perhaps just 3 minutes (although they should be the same ideally). I'd also say it sounds like they are not activating neck lock properly to maintain the correct flow of energy to the brain. If they are getting head rushes, it's time to slow down, take a breath, pull the chin back and visualize containing the energy in the sacral area, allowing it to subside before starting up again. Also, it may help not to be all tight and compressed in breathing, if they are like choking down their breath to hold it in, then they should probably go to fewer " WahHeyGurus " and work back up. My guess is, however, over exuberant pumping and improper neck lock could be potential causes of this. But that's just my guess. So, please them to be good to themselves... It's not a race, do it with grace... And as my teachers say, there's always more than one way to work on a problem... Best to your friend... Update us if any of this helps. Hearts... Guest guest
A lot of good suggestions have already come through on this thread. I've been doing So Darshan for 15 years at an hour a day. Guru Dev Singh once told me that Yogi Bhajan told him the kriya is best done while listening to Guru Raj Kaur's Narayan shabd. It's a marvelous addition and adds a certain timing to the navel pumps, but would be useful probably only after some experience. So Darshan (like most things, I suppose) is always changing for me. One thing works, then another works. But if I were to put one common denominator, it would be to keep coming back to love for God during the meditation. Now that really works! And I think that's where the Narayan shabd helps. All the other stuff, such as heat reactions, right/left balancing, etc. all just work out over time if you stick with it. -Sham Rang In a message dated 5/22/2009 9:19:56 A.M. Guest guest
Wow..lots of intense experiences...I am going to by-pass on what I known or intuit about the situation...but would very strongly request that she speak with the person who recommended this kriya to her. There is no evaluation or judgment as to what is right/wrong/corrected/etc, simple to remind us an aspect of the responsibility/relationship of teacher-student…on both sides…and a process that Yogi Bhajan implicitly integrated into the teaching. This is best illustrated by the story of Yogi Bhajan's teacher asking him to go up and stay in the tree…if you have read the entire story you know that his teacher and other students were watching him to make certain he wasn't going to fall. If the story is told without the part about his teacher watching, a very important aspect of the " teaching " is omitted. I am not saying that a teacher is always there to prevent us falling or to pick up the pieces and put us back together…yet the communication loop is always open…especially since this is a " teaching " and not the karma of time and space. Guest guest
Sat Nam, Outside of the book description, there's also this video on YouTube of Yogi Ji demonstrating it: This may add a little bit the entire picture... Like for example, his pumping is so subtle, you can't even see his tummy moving... I also like for instance when he says the " pituitary doesn't need any more hammering " ... referring to just making the pumping last only about 30 seconds... However, if you time it to beats of Narayan Shabd, you could go as long as a 1 minute breath, which also couldn't hurt... (Thanks to Doc Sham Rang Khalsa for that insight). It all comes down to your experience with it. -Fateh
