Guest guest
Sat Nam, Jis, Any KY teachers who are also massage therapists/bodyworkers and can address this issue of cranial adjustment by wearing a head covering? I was taught that the cranial plates on the sides of the skull are designed to move, and to move rhythmically back and forth in sync with each other, and that it's not healthy for them NOT to move, ie., to be held in place by a head covering. " Normally, the production and reabsorption of the Cerebrospinal Fluid within the Dura Mater [of the Craniosacral System] produces a continuous rise and fall of fluid pressure within the Craniosacral System. The semi-closed hydraulic system expands and contracts to some extent with this rhythmical pressure fluctuation. This volumetric accomodation prevents pressure from building up too much within the Craniosacral System. If for some reason your body is unable to accomodate these pressure changes, the subsequent buildup of pressure can contribute to dysfunction and ill health, especially in the Central Nervous System which is enclosed within the boundaries of the Craniosacral System. " -- from CranioSacral Therapy I Study Guide, by The Upledger Institute I have long been puzzled by this idea that the cranial bones/plates should be held in place by a head covering. I've asked many massage thereapists and chiropractors about it, and everyone I've talked to so far says the exact opposite: that the plates should be free to move, that a large part of craniosacral therapy involves facilitating the free and rhythmic movement of these plates, and that it's counter-productive to attempt to hold them in place. I would really appreciate it if someone could explain the " KY view " from an anatomical and physiological perspective, so that I could perhaps see it differently. Thanks! Covering the head stabilizes the cerebral matter and the twenty-six parts of the brain which are interlocked with the neurological system and electromagnetic field. Covering the head creates a focus of the functional circuit of the hemispheres, and tunes the neurological system. The whole head is to be covered, not just the Crown Chakra. Any head covering that covers your whole head is acceptable; white natural fabric is ideal. > > The benefit to wearing a turban is that when you wrap the 5 to 7 layers of cloth, you cover the temples which prevents any variance or movement in the different parts of the skull. A turban automatically gives you a cranial self-adjustment.
