Guest guest
Way back in the " olden days " of 3HO/SD there was an ashram head who filled the role of mentor for all students of 3HO/SD...for free...that was their sewa. Yogi Bhajan made certain that they served and if you didn't get what you needed from them then you went to him. I mention this " system " not because it was great but because it had as many " problems " as the new system we are developing now. I have a notebook full of letters from Yogi Bhajan yet the same " feeling " I sense of not quite enough in this discussion thread was present…looking back, his objective, which many have mentioned of self initiation was present…yet…this is important…he never let us fall to a spiritual death…and he wasn't into sink or swim mentality…we had to jump but that's another discussion I have posted before about the Yogi Bhajan story where his teacher put him in the tree, that story is not complete unless it has the part about his teacher being nearby watching him. But Yogi Bhajan didn't know it at the time he was in the tree. I am hoping you feel the subtly in the story with or without that part. One small thing that has worked in Eugene, Oregon USA teacher training is a new student is assigned/given/asked to have a mentor who meets with them at least once per month to go over what's up and the assigned readings. I have been a mentor many times and it seems like it has worked to get people started. I am grateful whoever spoke up about what is not working. I have learned from both new students and old students in applying the art of kundalini yoga.
